Just wanted to say how surprised I am

Hardy Heinlin

The world has 6 billion Earthlings.

Twelve are very shy, I'm one of them.

This forum has over 100 members. Only three or four show their head. I'm one of them. I thought I would be the last one doing this, if at all :-)

Not that I want to force anyone doing this! I'm just surprised. ... and I feel a little naked :-) I need more shadow and beard.

Cheers,

Perhaps some dark sunglasses would help too! (insert friendly grins here).

I've noticed that on some of the macro photography forums I frequent, people use photos of them when they were babies instead of a current photo. I thought that was an entertaining development.  (more grins)

But where can I find a good photographic or paint-based artist to create a cool photo like the one Hardy uses for his avatar?  (even more grins)
Best wishes,

Phil Bunch

Hi |-|ardy et al

Maybe people don't put their pictures up because:-

They are extroverted like me. They can't afford the aviator sun-glasses. They don't know how to download / upload a picture and are too shy to ask ?( I don't! know how to actually!!)

Mind you I can't fly a back course approach on a 744 either which is just as well because you can't on a real one.

Okay, Hardy  ... here's another shy earthling keeping you company.
(managed to find one with my 'aviator' sunglasses !)

Hardy Heinlin

Oho! Fantastic!! :-)

Cheers, Mr. Bond!

Now, what am I going to do?  I only have clip-on sunglasses, the ultimate sign of a geek! (Actually, where I live in Maine, there is so little sunshine most of the year that clip-ons for the 2-3 days per year when they're needed are  very rational...yet very unstylish).  Maybe I can borrow some aviator sunglasses or some Oakleys - I've always thought that Oakleys look cool but am not sure they will work with my face shape...

Maybe I'll try to find a photo of myself as a very young kid.  I looked better then vs my current age, anyway!
Best wishes,

Phil Bunch

Aaw, come on, no baby forum! :-)

In the last forum you once posted a photo of you sitting in a Sioux tipi. I think that was much more interesting! (Insert here Shiv's expression marks)

You remembered!  Now I really don't have an excuse...(grins)

I suppose I could simply take off my normal eyeglasses and put on aviator glasses or whatever.  I need to get a wig though, to compensate for my age-related hair loss.

Heck, now that I think about it further, Photoshop could fix all these issues up...hmmm...but who do I want to be?

This is almost as difficult as choosing and fixing up my avatar on Second Life.  At least on this forum we don't have to worry about buying virtual clothing or certain virtual personal body parts (grins) for my avatar from other participants, unlike Second Life.
Best wishes,

Phil Bunch

One of the reasons I always enjoy visiting this (and the previous) forum is that just about everybody uses his/her real name. I frequent a number of other forums and I've never understood why grownup men/women feel the need to post under some ridiculous alias. Call me old fashioned, but I use my own name on any forum on any internet.

Admittedly I have however, never given much thought about posting my photograph here. I will look for one and post it. Not easy as photography is, next to flight SIM, my other big hobby. And that means when I'm around all of sudden nobody else takes pictures any more. So never any pictures of me!

To counter I've stopped taking my camera. For instance I've just come back from a two week holiday in Barbados with no camera. However, everybody on the whole bloody island keeps shoving their camera in my hands. So again, no pictures of me in Barbados!

I'll have to do some self-portraits. Might be a while though. I'm moving from Nootdorp, the Netherlands to Kansas City, US in the next couple of days. New job with the same firm. (Ericsson). I have already promised myself, no matter what, I will go and visit the Boeing Factories and I will go and see the Reno Airshow and I will see Oshkosh etc. etc. So standby for plenty of photographs, not necessarily of me!

hmmm, I think there are several reasons why I have no avatar yet:
I prefer making photos of others, as long as they allow me to make photos.
I am not afaid you might be shocked to see my normal face (or my hair loss  ), but I do not actively distribute my face to those 6 billion Earthlings.
Why? I have really no reasonable answer. Call me conservative or old fashioned...
And finally up to now I refused to store my photo to an unknown public phote site. Somehow I would like to have control over that what happens with my data incl. my photo, allthough I know this is (almost) impossible in the Internet.
But if I find useful place, then I might offer my face here - not cool at all, no sunglasses, no flight deck...
Holger

P.S.
Maybe more members would have an avatar if the photo could be uploaded in our forum profile... Just an idea.

The "old" upload site associated with this Forum is still operational.

(and the statement of "one month" is not entirely accurate)

Visual contact!

Good morning Andrew and Holger. You gentlemen look much better than I have thought in my wildest fantasies :-)

Cheers,

(It's just a minor cosmetic thing, but when images bigger than 150 pixels are initally loaded, the forum subframes jump left/right and the loading takes a bit longer. This could be avoided if the original avatars are not bigger than 150 pixels in width and height. Just a tip. Not a problem.)

Holger Wende

That is why my "face" is exactly 150 pix wide. I looked for a recommended size and as I did not find one I looked at the other images sizes.

Let us know if we have to "slim down" a bit to fit the forum, it's much easier in the digital world than in real world
Holger

P.S. Add recommended max. pixel size to the users profile avatar link.

Hardy Heinlin

The 150 px recommendation is hidden :-) in the forum registration dialog and in the Pit at http://aerowinx.com/forum/topic.php?id=3
OK, I'll make it sticky :-) (It's not a big problem, it doesn't deserve an extra thread.)

Cheers,

|-|ardy

Thank you for the link. And how accurate is your month?
If it lasts a little bit longer I also would like to move my avatar to this location.
