Select POS on the ND, look at: three snowflakes, the satellite symbol(s), and two VORs (usually).

Go to POS REF page, LSK5R, GPS NAV INHIBIT>

When you select INHIBIT>, should the satellite symbol(s) disappear from the ND?

The other symbols (VORs and snowflakes) disappear when the respective systems are not available for FMC position updating (see this by turning off an IRS, or pulling CB A9 or B21).

I see no reason to remove any reference symbol from the ND when the respective reference position is still available. The UPDATE inhibit just inhibits the bias update for the FMC position calculation, not for the display of that reference's lat/lon on the ND and POS REF pages. You inhibit a reference when it's position data is unuseable for the FMC position calculation. For the visual comparison and evaluation, you may want to check the wrong position on the ND and POS REF pages of that erroneous reference which can be a DME, VOR, LOC, or GPS.

Of course, you can disconnect the power supply to a reference, but that's a brutal way of an update inhibit. In that case you lose everything, including the signals from the radio.
