Hi Hardy,

I hope you're well. Ever since December I have had problems with my Aerowinx setup. It started after I took my computer in for repairs and the technician reinstalled Windows 10. Since then, nothing has worked right. If you look back through my posts since then, you'll see I uninstalled and reinstalled Aerowinx, reinstalled the Situations file from a fellow work colleague, and thought I had it all fixed. Today, I wanted to load a flight off of a template, only to discover I can't position the aircraft to the airport I need it to be at - all capability in the POSITION page is not available. I'm unable to populate any Lat and Longs, etc. Also, in the situations I do have, I can't select other SIDs or STARs other than the ones already loaded for that situation. They just aren't there to select. The databases are up to date with Navigraph and Aerowinx update 10.175 is updated, too. I have no clue how to fix this. Please help. My cell number is +1 321 266-8740

Hi Mark,

re Position:

I hope you don't mind if I kindly recommend to read page 39 in the Aerowinx manual, especially the last paragraph; quote:

"To get further aircraft repositioning tools, enter an airport ICAO code, or a navaid or waypoint identifier, in the Aircraft position edit field."

Selection of current nav database:

As I explained recently, please go to the About page and select these two checkboxes:

[x] "I, the user, confirm I am not using this simulator for professional ..." etc.

[x] "Aerosoft and Navigraph databases selectable"

Only when both checkboxes are selected, Aerosoft and Navigraph databases will appear on the pop-up menu. When checked, select your desired Navigraph database from the menu. The FMC's DEP/ARR pages should then change automatically. However, the SID and STAR legs that were already entered in the RTE pages and LEGS pages will not change. You need to reselect the SIDs and STARs on the DEP/ARR pages.

Hi Hardy,

Thanks for that, but both boxes under the About/Quit tab are checked. The drop down menu only reads "Default nav data", no other option - not even the latest Navigraph update, although, when I select Copy real world UTC to simulated UTC under the Time tab, I see the up to date Navigraph database on the FMC CDU IDENT page - right now is says JUN13JUL11/24

On the Position tab, all boxes that I can usually enter any information in, such as Map Center, Aircraft Position, selecting an Overlay or Terrain, or Zoom Loading, etc are grayed out. I can not enter any desired info. Except - I can tick the Drag aircraft box, select Erase plot box and enter TAS HDG ALT info . The pictorial view of the position of the aircraft is in a 2 color box, divided into 3 sections; the top and bottom are black, and the center is blue with the aircraft in some unknown place on the earth, a blue circle - rotating like it wants to load missing information. The circle moves when I move the mouse in the box. It's not visible unless the mouse pointer is in that box. Right clicking the mouse will toggle the Drag aircraft and Click Map Center options.

The DEP/ARR page on the CDU, under DEPARTURES will have available runways, but no SIDs. On the ARRIVALS page, no runways and no STARs are available to select. The ACT RTE page, looks normal. In this case, it has a flight from JFK to AMS loaded with the correct runway and SID for the departure.

Anyway, I hope this info paints a clearer picture of the issue for you. Is it possible you can take control of my PC to see the issues for yourself? or would it be helpful to talk it through on the number I provided?

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

on the FMC IDENT page you cannot see if your database is from Navigraph. The FMC IDENT page just shows fictitious dates; they are simulated based on the sim time which is set on the Instructor's Time page -- the sim time can be 1970 or 1999 or 2012 or whatever -- while your truly installed database (on the About page) is from 2024 or whatever. These fictitious dates on the FMC IDENT page do not represent the truly installed database; they are just there for FMC IDENT page training, to demonstrate the swap function between active and standby databases, and to demonstrate the route deletion effect when swapping this stuff.

Anyway, if the Instructor's Position page remains greyed out it is a clear sign that you have no complete database at all. This can only happen if someone has deleted essential files in your Aerowinx folder tree.

Why don't you just copy the PSX DVD? It just takes a few seconds and everything will be back to normal.

You can keep your existing "Situations" folder:

Quote from: Hardy Heinlin on Wed,  1 May 2024 19:30So you have:
• A new Aerowinx folder with all standard files from the DVD
• Atlas situ files stored elsewhere
• Special layout files stored elsewhere

Just do this:
• Copy your Atlas situ files to Aerowinx/Situations
• Copy your special layout files to Aerowinx/Layouts

That's all.

Quote from: AtlasMark on Tue,  7 May 2024 12:21Hi Hardy,

I hope all's well. Sorry to get back to you - again - days later than I should.

Anyway, You were right, my Aerowinx folder was in an external hard drive, and instead of just moving it over to my OS C, I uninstalled Aerowinx and reinstalled it into the OS C. I was then able to reinstall the Atlas Sits and Layouts, and update the program to 10.174.

Now, I came across another unexpected issue - My Navigraph won't interface. I uninstalled and reinstalled that too, to try to get them to interface. I've obviously missed something. I have gone through the Addon Maps, selected Aerowinx, Added it, downloaded revision 2404, but in the About/Quite, 2404 doesn't populate in the Navigation Database window. Obviously, if it won't populate, updating the Copy Real World UTC to simulated UTC won't fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Mark.

Quote from: Hardy Heinlin on Tue,  7 May 2024 13:03Hi Mark,

I don't know the Navigraph system. I guess they provide installation instructions. Do you have access to their user manual?

What I can tell you is this:

For example, if the Navigraph database for cycle 2404 is provided in a subfolder called "2404-Navigraph", it should be placed here:

Aerowinx/Navigation/-Custom/List/2404-Navigraph/Binary/

So, here's my question again:

Mark, do you have access to Navigraph's user manual?

What I can tell you is this:

For example, if the Navigraph database for cycle 2404 is provided in a subfolder called "2404-Navigraph", it should be placed here:

Aerowinx/Navigation/-Custom/List/2404-Navigraph/Binary/

Do you understand the meaning of this file path and can you please tell me how that part looks like on your computer?

P.S.: I'm sorry, I only provide help via this forum. It runs 24/7. No phone calls etc.

Everything you wrote in red I know and understand. However, under the About/Quit tab, a drop down menu that reads, as default, "Default nav data", you will see a database from Navigraph - it won't say Navigraph, just the cycle number. You select that, update the Copy real world UTC to simulated UTC under the Time tab, and that will provide the updated database.

Aerowinx/Navigation/-Custom/List/2404-Navigraph/Binary/ is there.

I don't have access to Navigraph's user manual - I don't see one on their website.

I'll copy the CD and let you know how that turns out.

Thank you for your time and help so far.

Regards.

The button "Copy real world UTC to simulated UTC" is not a database function. It just sets the current sim time to the real-world UTC. You can also set the sim time with the season silder and time slider below that button. It affects the daylight simulation, weather simulation, cockpit clock simulations, FMC clock and date displays etc. It does not affect anything related to the truly installed database.

QuoteAerowinx/Navigation/-Custom/List/2404-Navigraph/Binary/ is there.
OK. What files are in there in that Binary folder? A Binary folder should contain 47 files. 46 of them should have the suffix ".w", and one of the 47 files should have the name "re.f".

If that is all fine, your pop-up menu on the About page should include the database name "2404-Navigraph". Are you saying you just see the word "2404" on the menu? How large is your Instructor window?

Hi again, Hardy,

I just got done reloading the CD, as you suggested. And, as you predicted, that solved the missing files issue. I now have STARs, SIDs and runways again. I also just got done updating Aerowinx to the latest update, making sure my NG FMC license is there and Navigraph has Aerowinx listed in the User box.

"The button "Copy real world UTC to simulated UTC" is not a database function". I understand that.
"It just sets the current sim time to the real-world UTC". I understand that, too. And I agree with, and understand, the rest of your first paragraph.

In the Aerowinx/Navigation/-Custom/List/2406-Navigraph/Binary/ there are 49 files, and the last one does have the name "re.f". Just to be clear, I had to manually place the file there, this time, where it used to I assume, load there automatically whenever I updated the latest Navigraph cycle. It wasn't something I ever needed to check up on in the past. All I ever had to do, was go to the About drop down menu and select the new cycle. Which is not there - even now. The pop-up menu on the About page still does not include the database name "2406-Navigraph". And I'm not sure why.

Thanks so far, Hardy. I appreciate your patience.

It is strange that you have 49 instead of 47 files. Maybe your manual copy action wasn't accurate. Please check this:

The following 45 files must exist, otherwise PSX won't put the database on the pop-up menu:

abb.w
d.w
db.w
ea.w
ea01.w
ea02.w
ea03.w
ea04.w

ea11.w
ea12.w

ea15.w
ea16.w
ea17.w
ea18.w
ea19.w
ea20.w
ea21.w
ea22.w
ea23.w
ea24.w
ep.w

pb.w
pc.w
pd.w
pd0.w
pe.w
pe0.w
pf.w
pf0.w
pg.w
pi.w
pm.w
pv.w

---- end -----

Another question: What is indicated in the text file Aerowinx/Logs/errors.txt?

kw2p

Hi Hardy,
There are 49 files in the folder - the 47 you describe and also cycle.jspn and cycle.info.txt.
They both pertain to the Navigraph data and version.

Kenny

Hardy Heinlin

Hi Kenny,

OK, if there are more files, it won't hurt. The important thing is that those 45 files listed above are in there.

|-|ardy

AtlasMark

Hi Hardy,

Okay ... in addition to your list, I have:

pct.w
re.f

and cycle.json and cycle_info

under Aerowinx/Logs/errors.txt I don't see anything listed.

Hardy Heinlin

Mark, could you zip your Binary folder and email the zip file to me for a test?

info at aerowinx com

Hardy Heinlin

Thanks for your mail, Mark.

It works in my PSX promptly without problems. I added that path as shown above, and my menu includes "2406-Navigraph" as expected. All data is there in all parts of the simulator.

I don't know what else I could suggest you to check. The path is OK and the data is OK. Are you sure you're working with one PSX copy and not multiple ones, where one PSX copy got the new database and the other PSX copy is what you're testing or something like that? Confusion with multiple external drives, internal drives etc.?

AtlasMark

Hi Hardy,

Thanks for that ... At least now I know I'm not going nuts - yet!  ;D

I did, at one point, have two copies of PSX on my PC - I didn't know that until earlier this year when I was having computer issues unrelated to Aerowinx. But, at the same time I couldn't update to 10.174, believing it to be because the tech guy who uninstalled/reinstalled Windows 10 did something that caused issues with Aerowinx. Anyway, One copy was in my documents, and the other was on an external hard drive. I uninstalled both copies, then reinstalled this copy into my C: drive.

Incidentally, because of the Windows 10 issue, I had to install Navigraph again. And, perhaps this may be where this problem, that you troubleshot, persists.
I can't find a Navigraph manual, to see that I set it up right, but I must have if my datatbase seems to be correct.

Hardy Heinlin

I'm not a Windows expert; a question for the experts: Is it possible in Windows that there is any "read protection" set on any folder within the Aerowinx folder tree, so that certain folders cannot be seen by certain programs?

B747-400

You can remove the rights to access the folder. Perhaps your technician screwed something up.

Unfort. I only have german screenshots:

Check your 2406-Navigraph folder with right click and properties. Then go to Security tab ("Sicherheit" on my screenshot)

Does you settings look like more like my left or my right screenshot?

Right one is NOT visible for PSX, left is.

Hope that helps
Hans

AtlasMark

Hallo Hans,

Danke für die Hilfe. Ich habe alles so gemacht, wie du es wolltest, und es überprüft. Alles sieht richtig aus.

Ich weiß deine Zeit zu schätzen.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Mark.

AtlasMark

Hi Hardy,

Thanks for all the help, mate. Like you, I couldn't understand why things were happening the way they were. So, I opted for the nuclear option - I wiped Aerowinx completely off my PC. You have no idea how liberating that felt - but also scary.  ;D

Anyway ... right after that, I reinstalled Aerowinx, did the latest update, reloaded the latest Navigraph cycle, Atlas Situations and Layouts, and the NG FMC ... and guess what?!!! It all came back!!!! Like nothing had ever been wrong. WTF - right? I was even able to add a scenario that I was originally going to add when I found all the faults.

So, all is good and safe in the land - and I can sleep soundly again.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

Kind regards,

Mark.
