I hope the next CEO will be an engineer, if not they should change the name from Boeing to Mcdonnel Douglas ;)

The commercial ceo has no engineering experience just financial background and is inhouse.

That's exactly what they don't need right now....

Do you think Boeing will still recover and if so: how?

Merging two cultures (BA and McD) in 1997 was probably not the best for Boeing, but it is what it is. However, for me, moving their corporate HQ away from Seattle (to Chicago and then to Arlington), was stupid and quite a red flag back then. How can you have your top management physically disconnected from your key production? It does not make sense. CEO and top brass must be connected to the key operations/production and be involved actively in the production process (as well as design process). It is always easier to do on-site, rather then off-site.

But this problem is also a long-term result of a hunt for maximizing margins at others costs, such as its employees (e.g. starting a second B787 production plant to South Carolina vs. staying in Washington state). Instead of maximizing on expertise of its workforce and focus on quality management, there was only a net income focus (for example: firing experienced employees in Seattle (unionized) and hiring new ones (non-unionized); divestment of supply chain; which now they are again trying to get back, etc.).

Can Boeing recover? I believe it can, but it must reform itself. Go back to basics and really fix the issues. It is an essential company for the US and global aviation, but it is not too big to fail. Everyone and everything is replaceable.

Hope to see Boeing in better condition.

It's obvious all this happened after the merge, but MD wasn't bad right? Or even Douglas (apart from the DC-10...). All where respectable companies (Mcdonnel, Boeing, Douglas), it may have a lot to do with the size of post merge Boeing and new managment philosphies.

The wrong company won, IMHO. Boeing should have never been allowed to buy MD.

Boeing have a lot of very tough questions to answer. Odd that the CEO steps down within weeks of the whistleblower being assassinated. It's pretty obvious that was corporate murder.
