If this is hiding in the tutorials section somewhere, I apologize for missing it...

Does anyone have step-by-step instructions for a manual start on the Pratt and Whitney 4000 engines?

Ground start?

1. Confirm the FCS is in CUTOFF
2. Pull the start switch
3. Watch the secondary ENG display: When N2 passes the magenta line (15%), set the FCS to RUN.
4. When any parameter becomes abnormal, set the FCS to CUTOFF.

Any time limitations on the starter motor?

Any time limits on waiting for ignition?

Any time limit on oil pressure coming to normal?

Will,

As per our company FCOM:

- Verify N1 rotation and oil pressure indication by 40% N2.

- If no EGT rise after 20 seconds of placing FUEL CONTROL switch to RUN, place FUEL CONTROL switch to CUTOFF.

- Some indications of potential hot start are initial fuel flow in excess of 320 kg./hr (700 lb./hr), or if duct pressure is less than 25 psi.

- If an engine has a history of potential hot starting, place the FUEL CONTROL switch to RUN only when N2 has reached its maximum motoring speed (N2 rate of increase of less than one percent in five seconds).

- Start one engine at a time (maximum of one pack on during start).

- Maximum ground start EGT 535C, inflight 650C.

- Engine starter duty cycle: Continuous for 5 minutes; cool 30 seconds per minute of operation.

Some of the above (non-limitations) vary per operator.

Regards,

Mariano
