PS1 & PMDG

Hi all,

I have been looking into my cockpit setup and addons etc and this in an ideal world is what I would like to do, so maybe someone can tell me if it is possible.

Basically I would like to use the PS1 model / sim within flightsim, but use the pmdg 744 visuals bascially the virtual cockpit. This is because it is only a basic setup I am wanting and of course ps1 is the best sim for realism compared to the pmdg.

Also I would want to use a goflight throttle and also the aerosoft MCP. Maybe a couple of other goflight modules to for switches etc.

I guess I would be wanting to hide the ps1 panel in some form as I am not going to be using seperate screens for this.

When I make inputs with the aerosoft mcp will I see them in the PMDG virtual cockpit?

I would like to put the overhead panel on another screen tho, would I use the pmdg one or the ps1 one? Would I be missing any features from ps1 if I did this?

So I guess will ps1 support goflight in flightsim too?

I understand that ps1 does not work in fsx?

Many thanks

Mark

The problem you will encounter is that PMDG must be reduced 100% to a visual slave of PS1. PS1 is and will have to remain the driver: systems, aerodynamics, and control must remain inside PS1.

Many people use the PMDG virtual cockpit as a pretty picture only with the VisualPS1 windshield link. Larger (projector) setups can do with just a plain forward view and do not need PMDG, but if you want a window frame, PMDG has a pretty one.

Some instruments of PMDG may dutifully follow the movements of the MSFS visual generator as it is being dragged around by PS1 via VisualPS1. However I doubt that the PFD and ND will appear in a satisfactory way. Any people that know this?

Aerosoft MCP and GoFlight TQ6 can be connected to PS1, this is routine.

The complete PS1 overhead panel is also available in a large one-screen image, including software. Even suitable for a touch screen.

PS1 has external PDF and ND instrumentation, using either 747IPC/VidServ or true external OpenGL drivers (which are not 100% complete, yet).

So the final question is: do you really need the full PMDG virtual cockpit with all indicators and lights working, or can you use the available PS1 external displays and fill in the holes with pretty but static PMDG paintings?

It is about functionality versus pretty pictures. If you want to 'fly' the setup, you can forget the virtual cockpit, as far as I understand -- you simply will not have sufficient visibility. You need to reduce to main displays only.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

So what you are saying is I don't really need the PMDG to be able to use PS1 & MSFS?

I guess I was just trying to avoid having multiple screens for everything! I was only going to use the PMDG Virtual cockpit with PS1 to drive it, but then I was hoping what changes I made in PS1 would be replicated in the VC of the PMDG...

Are any other Goflight modules supported? T8, P8 switches and buttons?

The overhead panel that will be fine then as I am going to use a monitor for this, but would like to use some goflight modules for some of the switches or a touch screen.

PS1 has external PDF and ND instrumentation, using either 747IPC/VidServ or true external OpenGL drivers (which are not 100% complete, yet).

Sorry this mean nothing to me?

What do you mean by visibility? I was wondering if I could hide the PS1 cockpit and use the PMDG VC as my main view, but maybe they will not work together.

Just hoping someone can advise on the PMDG and PS1 that has done it, or maybe I should not worry and do as you say Jeroen!!

Thanks

Correct. There are some aspects of PMDG such as the sounds that can enhance the experience though (others know about this better than I do).

Yes, see http://www.hoppie.nl/gfbridge/

You can pull PS1 displays out of PS1 and display them on another monitor if you want this, and there are two methods that each have pros and cons.

You can do it, but it won't be practical for several reasons. One is operational interaction, another is screen real estate, and yet another is that MSFS will not tolerate PS1 running on the same computer satisfactorily. You need at least two computers for the PS1+MSFS combination, though the PS1 computer can be a discarded box from your neighbour.

PMDG B744 is a complete program in a program (MSFS)   As there are so many functions which aren't able to be simulated correctly in MSFS, the PMDG team  was programming most off the B744 logic and behavior in their own program and running it inside MSFS.  So there is no interaction possible with other logic systems, as PMSystem (Project Magenta)  or PS1.  In fact PMDG B744 is a little as PS1. It is using MSFS mostly for the scenery.
