list bbcode not working?

Hi,

I was trying to make a list of items in a recent forum post here, standard bbcode for that is:

*item 1
*item 2

but, as you can see, instead of creating a list with bullet points, it writes out the bbcode...

Any idea why?

My kludge workaround:

List:
¤ item 1
¤ item 2
__We even can do indentation! If we get the colour right.
