There are other hidden refinements, too... In Version 04, on the Left Seat Panorama and the Right Seat Panorama, the zoom level and both the horizontal and the vertical anchors are now identical. They were a bit off in previous versions. :)

A question not related to layouts but not important enough for its own thread - how does one illuminate the maintenance panel that contains the Squib Test buttons?  I've searched throughout the manual and can't find where the light dimmer or switch is for this panel...
Best wishes,

The dome light knob, on the overhead panel, will make it bright enough to use.

There is no backlighting for the maintenance panels, so you will have to switch on a light which illuminates the cockpit generally. The P6 circuit breaker panel is similar.

Thanks for the assistance re illuminating this panel as well as P6.  I had searched the manual for every phrase I could think of and couldn't find the magic lighting button for them.

Perhaps we should ask Hardy to implement a keyboard-activated, mouse-driven virtual flashlight?!  It would need to be added to the other functions of the mouse, and then deactivated by keyboard when not needed.  Easy for me to suggest, of course.  Somehow I suspect Hardy's priorities for modifying PSX already has quite a few much higher priority items in it.

I assume that real pilots would use a real flashlight if they needed to fool around in those panels at night...

On the other hand, it's probably a bit unusual to test squibs in the middle of the night out over the Pacific or Atlantic or North Pole!  Maybe it's just as well they live "in the corner, in the back, in the dark".
Best wishes,

Phil Bunch

Hi Will,
Finally my new notebook arrived  :)  replacing my old Win98 machine.
While waiting I started to make notes how to create a good layout, baased on the experience I had with PS1.3.
But yours is really great and makes all my notes obsolete.
Thanks for sharing your 9pack file.

Thanks, Scott, for the kind words.

After reading this thread for the first time in a while, I'm remembering that I promised a PDF of this tutorial, and never got around to making it. I'll try to get that done soon.

I would love pdf version of your article. I have PSX on my desktop and now installed on my laptop for work. I am trying to come up with a good layout for 1 15in screen.

Hi Will,

Happy New Year!
Thank you for your layouts and the tutorial.

Second day with the PSX and it is hard to familiarize myself with the software.

Back in the day the learning curve with the PS 1.3 was way more easier, I think.

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

Yup. You got about twelve times more airplane, this time. Congratulations!

Yes it's true but the layouts, instances e.t.c. are so confusing for the first time user of PSX even if he had literally thousands hours in the PS1 until understands their logic.

By the way, although of topic, i'll take the opportunity to thank you for your software that made the PS to connect with the rest of the virtual world of flight simulator pilots with Satco/Vatsim network. Thousand hours of pure joy and excitement from the late 90's to the middle 20's.

Life of course follows its own paths and little by little professional obligations made me stop dealing with flight simulators completely from 2007 onwards.
Now after 15 years I said to give flight simulators a chance again, I took out of the closet my spidery equipment or at least that it still works from them and of course with what better I could return from the best flight simulator ever made but in its modern version.

From what I can see, you are now professionally involved in designing actual aircraft avionics and moved to USA with your family.
Once again, thank you for your work and I wish you all the best to you and your loved ones for the New Year!

Hi PanosI!

(With apologies to Will for a continuation of this OT excursion), if you're just starting to get to grips with PSX you might perhaps find something helpful in my 'Getting started with PSX' trilogy, found in the Tutorials section on this page?

Although the tutorials are very old now there might perhaps be some stuff in there that speeds your understanding — you never know.

Cheers,

Brian
