Nice work in progress for X-Plane:

Oh my favorite aircraft!  Looks very exciting, indeed.

Roel Raeven

Well done. Personally I don't like these 3D cockpits on X-Plane. Maybe it's just because I don't have a proper device for it like the IR-Track.

They got a new video:

The graphics could be a little more crisp... other than that...
it looks very promising.

The IXEG is still under development.

In the meantime I switched to X-Plane (after 18 years of MSFS) and never
looked back to FSX. X-Plane looks & feels better
and I like the physics&weather simulation more than in FSX.

If anyone cares, I got the Jetstream J32 for X-Plane.
Very lovely aircraft, very much alive and fun to fly:

PMDG tries to develop for X-P too, also Carenado converted
a few of their aircraft to X-P. Way to go!

There is a head tracking solution for X-Plane from Shade Tree Micro...

Furthermore, XP10 has a feature where you can see panel segments (or any other view) by a keystroke combination so you don't have to hunt around a 3D panel by scanning. It also helps with parallax issues so you can see the panel segment head on rather than from an angle. This is incorporated in the excellent new 727 by FlyJSim as well...

Hey stekeller,

I saw you have been active in the X-P community,
you have good taste  :P

Concerning the webcam-plugin, something similar
is available for free:

Frumpy:

You caught me ;-)

Thanks for the link. I will give it a shot.

Just talking about it: I thought they would post everything in the blog,
but I found something on youtube.

So here a pattern demonstration:

If anyone cares... a demonstration of the autothrottle system:

I used X-Plane already in 1995. Then it was fun for me.

But as far in my opinion X-Plane did not made the steps to make it a real alt for MSFS.

The biggest problem of X-Plane is the developers are not very open to critics. Austin Meyer basically has two rules.

Rule 1. X-Plane is always right.
Rule 2. When X-Plane is not right rule nr one becomes effective.

In fact it's a pitty. The sim has a lot of potential. When they should use fora such as this the sim would be much better.

Hardy is using real 747 pilots to get the right feedback. He also asks questions on this forum to see if his ideas are right.

X-Plane doesnt do this. You really have to talk blisters on your tongue to convince them they make crucial mistakes in their sim. A real big obstacle.

To give an example. The behavior on the ground was in X-Plane 9 extremely bad. When you made a turn a little bit to sharp the plane just stopped. Sometimes impossible to line up.

X-Plane answered my remark they tested it with their Cirrus airplane and they said it worked the way it should work. They did nothing to improve.

In the early version 10 it was the same story. Also you really had to give a lot of thrust to keep a 747 rolling. Later they changed something. Now you cnstantly have to use your brakes when you taxi at idle.

I had many crashes in X-Plane. I crashed upside down at one approach at Amsterdam this winter with real weather.
When I looked outside my window in my house wich is 3 kn away from Schiphol it was very stable weather. Not much wind. Only some snow.

In X-Plane I ended up in a strom to compare with a tsunami.

I just wait for PSX. 100% sure this sim will not have these problems because Hardy listens much better to input as they so at X-Plane.

frumpy

I agree with you. I asked the community for some strange
and very obvious rolling behavior which is related to
propwash. People agreed that this is an issue but also
pointed out that Austin is not very open for this kind of
feedback. I emailed him, haven't got an answer yet.

I mean thats probably the backside of a flightsim which
is mainly programmed by only one person which tries to
keep up with a sim which had multiple times of manpower
behind it.
Anyway, I believe the IXEG will be dead on, no matter
what the framework says (yes, they wrote a plugin for
ground handling too^^). I don't have a problem just
flying one single aircraft in that sim ;)

stekeller

Hi Martin:

Just as a counterpoint, I have found Austin open to make changes to the sim for smaller features. He personally responds to feature requests (particularly from developers) and actually implemented one I asked for. Also, he is relinquishing more control of X-Plane and now has a bigger team.

And, as frumpy says, with plug-ins you can do a lot and bypass things in the sim you don't like, to model behavior and systems that are more complex or behave differently. One should also highlight the fact that X-Plane is an evolving platform while FSX is effectively dead.

Nothing can match a dedicated sim like PSX will be, but X-Plane is worth a look for other types of simming.

The IXEG is pretty advanced right now, I have the
feeling they will publish it this year. Can't wait!!
Personally I am more a 737-guy (yeh, I know, wrong
forum      ) so I thought some preparation for the
IXEG wouldn't be wrong.  :P
If anyone cares, here's the video:

frumpy

I don't want to interfere with Hardy's work and effort,
but I think the IXEG 737 is a gem to the flightsim community too.
(If it's no appropriate, feel free to ignore or remove this
post    )

They just put out the first of 4 videos and I think
it's soo tasty...

Thanks for posting....
I am looking at these with interest / view to purchase when available.
PSX, the IEXG 737, PMDG 777-300, the Flightfactor 757 (recently released) and possibly LevelD 757. Oh and yes, I have to work
Like you say, hope it's ok to go slightly O/T here.... hope so as I think we're a bunch of in-depth system flyers here  :) Certainly good times to be in our hobby thanks to all developers.
Regards
Carl
