On the subject of typography, allow me to reproduce here the shortest poem I ever wrote (... it's also the only poem I ever wrote):

Her smile was almost there,
like italics without any letters.

Gentlemen, I was talking about 'bolded', not 'bold'.

Martin, I think 'embolden' primarily means 'to make brave' ... 'to give courage'.

(And how would it fit in our sentence ? ... embolded ... emboldened ??)

Shiv

italic sans :-)    ... brilliant, Hoppie !

So?

Quote from: Shiv MathurAnd how would it fit in our sentence ? ... embolded ... emboldened ??
Thus:
" ... I'll just say that the emboldened bits in the sentence ..."
Doesn't look worse to me than "bolded", and why not introduce a shift in semantics?

Or may be
" ... I'll just say that the bolted bits in the sentence ..."
(I know: It ought to be "bolted on" or else we have another shift in semantics...)

Or German to the rescue: "bold face" is "Fettdruck", whence
" ... I'll just say that the fat bits in the sentence ..."
(I have a multicultural feeling this will appeal esp. to the US clientele.)

Sorry.

Yes ... I noticed the toothy grin only after I posted !

Anyway, I wasn't trying to bowdlerise the bolded bits,
and your 'bolts' idea seems quite nuts to me.
I consider myself bowled over.

Splendid, Shiv!  :D

Hope you get back on your feet soon, possibly being pulled up by a Bowden cable...
