On another subject - as a purely theoretical exercise I wrote a script that can extract the data needed from a Navigraph database (which Navigraph subscribers can download) and save in the SRSL Runways.data format.

As far as I can tell, using your own Navigraph data subscription to download this data and use it in your own flight sim for non-professional purposes is acceptable, so I think this tool is OK to use. But that is something the user needs to decide for themselves. See e.g https://developers.navigraph.com/docs/general/

Just out of curiosity ofcourse  I downloaded the littlenav file from Navigraph and I looked at the script.....but how can I compile a database for SRSL

Hi Ton,

Don't work too hard on this. In the next PSX version, SRSL-PSX will get from PSX all runways around the aircraft all over the world and there will be no need for the runways.data file. SRSL-PSX will work all over the PSX world.

Why the runway request thread? I thought the RWY data would be delivered by PSX in an upcoming version.

Hi Hans,

I opened the runway request thread when I released SRSL-PSX b0.1
At that time the file was the only source for runways.

As you said, my next release will be v1.0 and SRSL-PSX will get the runways from PSX and it will work all over the PSX world (with no need for the file).
I worked on it very few hours during the weekend, I need to complete the modifications, test it, update the user guide and I will release it probably in two weeks as I don't have time during weekdays. Sorry.

Hi Avi,
Congratulations for this add on and for your work. Good for touch and go training  . During approach on database airports, I always have the aural message "Approaching runway XX" and sometimes "APP XX" on EICAS (LFPO 06 for example aural but no EICAS message).

First of all, thanks.

For visual messages (at the moment EICAS messages), make sure your visual alert level (LSK 5L on Settings page 1/3) is ALWAYS as this is the only option to display routine messages.
Also, make sure your Terrain display is ON on eitrher ND.

I'm officially release SRSL-PSX as v1.0

New in this version:

* SRSL-PSX now uses runways data it gets from PSX and not from a file (you can delete the file).
* TOOLS option in SRSL CDU menu page removed.
* Visual messages are now displayed on the ND (if terrain in ON) and not as EICAS messages.
* SRSL-PSX doesn't function during GPS interferences (spoofing or jamming) but the user can override it on the setting pages (LSK 5L on Settings 3/3 page).
* User guide updated.

Note: SRSL-PSX works with PSX 10.186 and above.

I uploaded a new zip file and a new jar file which is the same as the one inside the zip file.

I want to thank Hardy for the runways data and the new ND message.

By the way, I like the female voice. It's one of that kind of voices that will never get on my nerves. I intentionally handle my aircraft badly in order to hear her voice more often.

Great job Avi! The terrain setting for the ND is this in the real airplane too?

Yes, Ton. In the real systems, the message is drawn on the terrain image. So when the ND doesn't show this image, there is no message visible.

Interesting. So are there any SOPs out there that require terrain to be switched ON while on the ground? I can imagine scenarios (flat terrain, thunderstorms) in which the crew would prefer having the radar on their displays before takeoff. Obviously, the crew could keep one of the NDs on terrain at all times, or else have a procedure that says to turn on the radar only after lining up on the departure runway, or just forego the visual RAAS warnings. I'm curious how SOPs address this--or if they do.
