Mac Mini M4 Chip and Aerowinx...

Fellow members, Greetings.
About a week ago, I switched to a Mac Mini from PC. I ran Aerowinx on the PC earlier. I would be grateful if you are able to share any of your experiences.
I have reset my PC and doesnt have Aerowinx on it anymore. However, I copied the folder on to a thumb drive.

Is it as simple as copying the folder over to my new Mac Mini?
Is there a location in the macOS, that I should save the folder at?
Then install Java?

Looking forward to your help.

Hi,

normally, you just copy your old "Aerowinx" folder to your Mac's "Applications" folder (Applications/Aerowinx/...) but the new Macs with the M-chips don't really support the Aerowinx software anymore, unfortunately. You need to install a Java version for Intel chips. Whether you install that first or after, doesn't matter. You just can't start PSX before Java ist installed.

I don't recommend to run PSX on those newer Macs. Sorry for the bad news.

Just transfer the folder

Don't put it into Documents as Apple sometimes introduces extra security for those folders, just put it into /User/WhateverYouCallYourHomeDirectory

Install Java, I would suggest version 11. If you want sound you need the x64 not the Arm64 version. Get the installer pkg from here:

Java 11

You need to enable Rosetta 2 to run the x64 version of java: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/install-rosetta-2-on-apple-silicon-macs-m1-m2-and-m3/

Don't mind Hardy: I am running it quite happily on an M5

I was excited on getting back on Aerowinx after I had bought MacMini till I saw Hardy's message.

Members, can you please point me to Minimum system requirements page (to run AEROWINX with 70+ Frame rate) which may have been discussed in the past.

I am thinking of buy a low priced PC, just to run AEROWINX. I have a good curved Samsung monitor already with an HDMI.

Dual-core or multi-core CPU, running at 2.5 GHz or higher.
4 GB RAM
3 GB free hard disk space

Make sure that Win 11 wants to run on that ... I think it may be very unhappy with just 4 GB.

Would this specification be able for run Aerowinx satisfactorily? Satisfactorily, meaning 70 Fps

HP - OmniDesk Slim Desktop - Intel Core i3-13100 2023 - 8GB DDR5 Memory - 256GB SSD.

Its CPUs seem to run at 3,9 GHz, and the graphics are for Ultra-HD. I think that's more than enough.

This will possibly be my last question in this topic. I tried running Aerowinx on my late 2013 Macbook pro. Runs smooth and perfectly. Even better, I use Airplay with a Bose soundbar to a larger screen. Results were good and I am liking the experience.

However, I am unable to move the Aerowinx screen from the Macbook pro to the extended screen. I have unchecked the option "Start with maximized window" under Preferences>Basic.

Is there another setting that I should enable/disable? So that I can use the larger screen as an extended display as against the screen mirroring I am having to resort to.

You need to select "Allow frame stretching across multiple monitors".

Tried this. Didn't work.

Here is my setup.
My Macbook's HDMI port is connected to the Samsung curved monitor.
I don't get those traffic light buttons on the Aerowinx application or the top bar which I can grab the window and move it around. Should I try another option or setting?

The application is running smooth and fine. 52FPS, sound is fine. Resolution is fine. It is just that the application has stayed in the MacBook pro screen.

Have you enabled "Show title, border and buttons of flightdeck frame"?

I set up from scratch the other day, and the following worked for me:

Save your layout once it's on the new monitor (e.g. "samsung.layout"), then save the screen options in a new preference e.g. "samsung.pref", including the layout name (Basics - start with layout...) Add samsung.pref to AerowinxNetStart.ini and start PSX with AerowinxNetStart.jar.

Once it reliably starts on the new monitor and if you want it full screen, uncheck "allow frame stretching" and select "start with maximized window..." and resave your pref file. I have 3 windows on 3 monitors and they start correctly everytime using AerowinxNetStart.jar
