Really? wow... that's a bummer.
What about CrossOver? I have seen people running Java apps under CrossOver.
Jamie

Yes it does run satisfactorily under Crossover with performance as good as Rosetta2 (as one would expect I suppose). Maybe Crossover will survive the partial withdrawal of Rosetta - who knows?

Hi,
For Information,

I installed TAHOE beta on an external SSD and installed Java 1.8.0_461.
When I launched Aerowinxstart.jar from my M2 MacBook Air, TAHOE prompted me to install Rosetta.
PSX opened normally and ran smoothly (50fps) with sound.

Guy.

Hi Guy, PSX opened normally with Rosetta?

Good to know Tahoe still supports Rosetta. The release will be tomorrow right? I have the betas (26) on my ios devices, but not happy with it. That's a different subject :)

Hi Hardy, Normally. It was Tahoe who suggested installing Rosetta,
and Java 1.8 and PSX are running fine.
However, I haven't been able to install a Java/ARM version.
A link that might be useful: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/64788005/java-jdk-for-the-apple-silicon-chips
So far, everything is fine with Rosetta and "The best being the enemy of the good"...

Not? I have. Just the Java AArch64 versions for MacOS. They all work: Zulu/ OpenJDK/ Oracle. I installed v11 btw, the last LTS that works with PSX.

Hi Jamie,

I tried installing several ARM versions: no sound
With Rosetta, PSX runs fine on my Mac mini with Sequoia and on the M2 MacBook Air with Tahoe.
It's simpler.

FlyItLikeYouStoleIt

A quick re-summary:

The ARM Javas do not support sound as the sound libraries used by PSX have not been (and never will be) compiled for ARM processors. It is not dependent on the version of MacOS or the brand of Java.

However if you don't care about sound they are faster and more power efficient.

Guy13, I noticed a significant performance drop in Tahoe and went back to Sequoia. I'll wait a couple of months until things have settled down and the performance has improved a bit.

And as FlyItLikeYouStoleIt said: no sound with Java ARM. I notice zero performance difference between the ARM and Rosetta2/X64 versions btw.

Jamie,
Tahoe is on an external SSD, PSX is on an M2 MacBook Air and PSX Sequoia is on a 2020 M1.
When running both PSXs at the same time, Tahoe is about 40% faster, but that's with an M2.
I tried installing several ARM versions with TAHOE and the M2. PSX runs fine, without sound, of course, for the reasons explained in post #48.
PSX should run fine with Rosetta2.

Jamie

Different subject, but very interesting: I'm running Macs M4s and they are all behaving slower with Tahoe. Must say I run Java SE 11 (intel).
