New (and some old?) accounts in Simfest portal not working

I have been helping @voipmeister to get starting using BACARS and the portal for flight planning.

As far as I can tell something is broken in his Simfest account, and also in the new Simfest test accounts he has tried to create. And when I try creating a new Simfest account that is also broken.

With voipmeister's main Simfest account, he can add a flight on the Schedule. When clicking the calculator icon the Simbrief popup appears, but stays open longer than usual, and when it closes the flight has a blue background instead of green. On the Briefing page the flight appears, but when clicking on it he only sees spinning circles.

I just verified that the problem is indeed with his portal account. Using a newly installed VM desktop and a fresh Chrome profile, I logged into my own Simbrief account, and then into voipmeister's portal account. I then got the same problem that he did. I then created another Chrome profile, logged into Simbrief and then into my own portal account, and then it works normally.

I tried to create a test account in the portal (flightsim2025@proton.me) but that is even more broken than voipmeisters account, I get "An error has occurred. This application may no longer respond until reloaded" by simply clicking the plus icon in the Schedule page.

Thanks for posting @macroflight. The flight is created in Simbrief, but as you wrote, it cannot be viewed in the planning portal.

OK, I found a few more clues...

If I create an account on the new site (https://planning.simfest.co.uk/Identity/Account/Register), I can log in, but the account is "even more broken" as described in my last post.

But if I first create it on the old site (https://dispatch.simfest.co.uk/) and then again on https://planning.simfest.co.uk/Identity/Account/Register using the same email address (and password, not sure if that's needed), then I get an account that is broken in exactly the way voipmeister's is.

So maybe there's a third magic step that is needed to create a fully working portal account?

Wasn't there a problem where it's not filling in something on the preferences page by default?

I'm away for the weekend but I wonder if it's something to do with a blank preference entry?  Flight plan remarks rings a bell

Hi Gary, thanks for replying.

I copied the preferences from macroflight's working account to avoid that issue, but that didn't help for my account unfortunately.

Update: Gary fixed this problem yesterday, along with some other broken portal accounts.

As I understood it, the portal code that creates new accounts is still slightly broken, so newly created accounts will also be slightly broken and need to be manually repaired. A permanent fix for this problem is on Gary's TODO list.

Yes! My account is working - thanks Gary!

Flightplan generation from within the portal to Simbrief works using Chrome. I can open the generated FP in Firefox as well, but couldn't get the generation of the FP to work in Firefox. Minor thing, I'm glad I can use BACARS fully now  8)

Just mentioning browsers for other pilots. Chrome works and Edge too, probably.

Hi Gary,

Something is wrong with my password trying to login to simfest. Tried to reset password via forgot password email but never recieved reset emails.
Can you please look it up when you get a chance.
