Hey Hardy,
Hey all,

the AerowinxStart.jar doesn't want to open anymore. I was out working this week, so i didn't start PSX until this morning, when I wanted to check something on my rig. unfortunately PSX or java is not starting anymore. Is someone else experiencing this as well? And how can it be fixed?

the problem doesn't remain limited to 1 pc but all 4 pc's are having the same issue. my laptop, which is not connected in the network, does open PSX and runs fine. Any idea's?

kind regards,

Frederic

Most likely your PC farm installed Windows updates which then nicely unplugged your Java assignments.
Or something updated your Java and effectively did the same.

Can you try "JarFix" first?

Hey Jeroen,

thx for the tip, but unfortunately it didn't help. Java is still not starting up PSX. I tried removing Java and reinstalling the latest version, but still nothing.

will try to uninstall the latest windows updates, probably there lays the issues i am having.

Also try this.

* Navigate to the folder in which you installed PSX.
* Right-click on the AerowinxStart.jar file.
* Select Properties.
* Look at the General tab.

On my Win11 system the "Opens with:" line says "Java(TM) Platform SE binary".
When I click Change... next to it, I can see that selection.

Can you try this and report back what you find?

tried it, no change.

also tried to install and run with Java SDK24, no change.

when clicking on the jar file (tried it with the AerowinxStart, AerowinxNetStart, Aerowinx.jar) nothing seems to be happening. no errors, just nothing.

checked Java for updates, but it states i am all up to date (version Java8 update 451).

already removed the last windows updates, but still nothing

got it back up and running again.

cleaned all of java and PSX off the pc, clean off the latest updates and when back to an earlier control point of windows. Reinstalled it all, without the last windows updates, and bam working again.

thanks for the assist, jeroen!

hey hoppie,

I came across the same issue this week, after a week of not operating the sim, but this time on another pc. then a lightening bolt stroke me: my instructor pc wasn't running (in both cases).

So what happened: a while ago, I installed symlink on my aerowinx.jar (on all pc's). they are linked to a shared folder on my instructor pc (the only one with a keyboard and mouse). So, if my instructor pc isn't started up first, the shared folder is not available, ergo: aerowinx.jar is not available. So, PSX will not start automatically as the pc thinks the file is missing.

If the instructor pc is started first, all works fine!!

kind regards,

Frederic

Yet another thing to check!

And no, you're not the first one to suffer from this issue ... folder sharing is a known trick that comes back to bite you at a certain moment.

yep, will put a big label on the screen: START THIS ONE FIRST ;) ;) ;)

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

No no no  :-)   Put a big label on all other screens:   DID YOU START THE INSTRUCTOR STATION?     :-)

Joking aside, these big rig sims need check lists and procedures very much like a real airplane. Not for the pilots but for the engineers running the sim.
And after working on one for a few years you also learn that you need to treat construction and modification like a real airplane ...

renquetfrederic

Yeah, i figured out the part of the checklist. I also try to keep up with the schematics and the coding. But that is still in the pipeline... the one which need to be unclogged ;) ;)
