Hi all,
My QRH does not include Combi aircraft. I have a question concerning fire on main deck.
In case of fire, PSX message is FIRE MN DK AFT.
Is there any difference in QRH with FIRE CARGO FWD or FIRE CARGO AFT procedures?
Maybe KLM guys may help ;-)

Hi,

unlike freighters, the combi obviously has no depressurization system for main deck fire. Instead, the combi has a lot of fire extinguisher bottles on the main deck. On the combi, on the overhead panel, you have that third ARM switch called "MAIN" -- in addition to "FWD" and "AFT". Press MAIN, then DISCH. Then notice all the BTL LOW messages on the STAT page.

Thanks for your answer Hardy. I noticed that there is no cabin altitude sudden increase. This would be fatal for passengers. This is why I think that QRH procedures are nearly similar.

I have been away from home and my computers for the past three months, so a little late with my reply.

For the COMBI aircraft, EICAS would show FIRE MAIN DECK. The QRH procedure is comparable to the FIRE CARGO AFT procedure for the Passenger/Combi aircraft (lower cargo compartment), however with a few exceptions:

Steps 1 - 3 are the same
Step 4 for COMBI: "After 30 seconds - CARGO FIRE DISCH switch - Push and hold for 1 second"; 90 minutes of fire suppression are available.
Step 5 is the same
An additional Step 6 is introduced for COMBI aircraft: TRIM AIR switch OFF

All remaining steps are identical except for Step 11 (Passenger/Combi Fire Cargo AFT) which for the COMBI (as Step 12) reads: Do not accomplish the following checklists:
- LANDING ALT
- TEMP ZONE
- >TRIM AIR OFF

Kind regards,
Simon

Thank you for your answer. If I understand, main differences are:
- TRIM AIR switch OFF added
- TEMP ZONE & >TRIM AIR OFF added in the not accomplish C/L

simonijs

Correct. Note the difference in step 4;

Press the switch after 30 seconds; and instead of 255 minutes of fire suppression (Fire Cargo Aft), for the COMBI this is only 90 minutes (Fire Main Deck).
