Situation delete

Hi Hardy,

in Situation / Load window one can delete a situ file by pressing BACKSPACE or DEL key. Unfortunatley, the files are deleted instantly and permanently without any confirmation dialog, or the chance to be restored from the bin.

Is there a way to avoid this?

The only way is to not delete them :-)

B747-400

Well, when it happens accidentially it's a pain that they cannot be recovered and have no protection by a Y/N user decision.

Is there a chance to get any file-protection (like "disable situ delete") in one of the next updates?

That would require some modification work on the Pref pages and for all Save and Load pages, not just situs; this is not done in ten minutes, and -- honestly -- I'm too lazy for that work :-) If you need file protection you may click the "Locked" checkbox for the desired file in your Mac or in the equivalent feature in Windows.

The "write protection" came in my mind as well, but PSX deletes the file anyways.

This protection works only when saving, where PSX do not save (overwrite) the file - but does it also without any notification. So, it does not save, but you dont know it.

Sad, that such cruitial UI safety measurements are not available ... but I have to accept your decision  :(

One possible workaround: automatically backup of your important PSX files, preferably with file versioning so you can restore not just the latest but older versions of a file.

E.g Syncthing or Dropbox Sync (I'm sure there are many other options).

Yeah, of course all is saved multiple times, and could be replaced manually.

During flight I use a wireless keyboard. Guess what key is place badly when grabbing it ... yep ... the DEL key.

I use OneDrive, SymbolLiks, network folders ... etc. ... the whole range. But I avoid syncing the Situation folder. In case of accidental deleting a situ-file (without recognizing it) - the file is lost in the Cloud as well.

That are the reasons, why I`m so curious, that an excellent program like PSX lacks a SO vital user safety feature.

And I say that, as an IT veteran with 40+ yrs in service ... I know, that the delete thing is MY fault, but 99 % it's the user ...  ;)

That's why I suggested using software that can keep multiple versions of your file so that you can restore it even after deletion.

Yes, I know what you mean. Either this, or a one way synchronization / restore.
