Situation search function?

Is there possibility to search through situation files within the PSX? I mean like a search file where I could enter *eddf* and it would show all Situ files that contain EDDF in the name.

Not within the PSX software but you may use the text search system of your Mac or Windows. Situ files are text files. You probably need to put "situ" files to your computer's search index. In a situ file, "EDDF" for example may occur not only in the description but also in other variables like ATC setting, FMC route 1 or 2, FIX INFO setting, weather setting etc.

Hardy, is this something you would consider as a feature request? It would be a great quality of life feature to be able to search the situations from within PSX  :)

Very unlikely, I'm sorry ...

Background info: The file lists in PSX are alphabetically sorted. If the file names have a consistent structure, I can find my desired file within two seconds just by moving the scroll slider.

I think the most important thing here for users is to make well structured file names that include numbers and a consistent name structure so that everything remains alphabetically sorted.

Like this:

001 Departure VHHH to KLAX.situ
001 Departure WSSS to RJAA.situ
002 Approach training EHAM.situ
002 Approach training LGAV.situ

Not like this:

Approach into WSSS.situ
EGLL departure.situ
Inflight over Africa.situ
VHHH departure.situ

That's the basic idea. The sorted system should directly appear in the list display itself.

Hardy, I was already sorting them in the sense that the scenarios that I use the most are prepended with one or more dashes so they would appear on top. That still gets messy if you're not adhering to a convention strictly enough :)

Reading back I think I should've written 'filter' instead of 'search'.

Thanks for the reply!

Hi,

@Seb

I organized my situs like

EDDM 214
EDDM 249A
EDDM APP RWY 26L
EDDM on RWY 08L
EDDS 13

The numbers are the gate numbers (i. e. gate 13 at EDDS) and if on RWY or APP etc. names are self-explanatory. So, all airports are arranged by ICAO in alphabetical order.

I use PSX on Win 10. To jump to first Airport starting with E in the Situation / Load window, I simply press key <E>.

If I want to go to EDDM, I enter <E> <D> <D> <M> and the PSX situ window bar jumps to first EDDM situation. So that's your filter, I guess.

Perhaps you have to click into the listing box first, to make this work.

@Hardy

In Situation / Load window you can delete a situ file by pressing BACKSPACE or DEL key. Unfortunatley, the files are deleted instantly and permanently without any confirmation dialog.

I think it would make sense, to add a Y/N dialog here. I accidentially deleted some situ files in the past.

THX for considering.

Hans, thanks for the insight. I will try to adhere to this and try it out :)
