Quote from: John Davis PCAs I understand it, the developers cannot do much about it as they haver to work with microsofts flight models so basically the big jets end up flying like souped up cessnas !

Thats where PS1 completely catches my customers out :)

Not entirely - some of the serious payware addons use a lot of tricks to be quite good (allegedly, having never flown the real things!)

I don't think the flight models have a lot to with MSFS peoples ability to fly a PS1 full size sim.

The big hurdle is people getting used to the environment, layout, perspective etc - it's a big change to go from one screen to a physical cockpit.  I think the perspective 'out the window' is a much bigger issue.

The better add-ons out there do seem to have at least pretty good flight models, although I'm not sure if they're quite as good as PS1 is (or PSX will surely be). Although Microsoft's system does have its limits, and in my humble opinion is not as good during abnormal situations (extreme pitch, etc), a few high-quality add-on developers work around these constraints to create a fairly realistic flight model.

I do agree that the format of a homemade (or Level-D) simulator is probably part of the reason for the trouble. Not only can the view be different, depending on the setup the simmer has, things can be quite different. Also, sim pilots may experience difficulty going from doing everything themselves to sharing the cockpit and learning crew resource management (that is, unless they have an add-on that simulates a first officer).

Just my two cents.

The whole environment certainly is a big factor, I remebwe being completely thrown by Matts sim before I buily my own :)

Just saw this...

"First Boeing 747-8 Freighter Leaves Paint Hangar"

EVERETT, Wash., Nov. 18, 2009 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] moved the first 747-8 Freighter out of the paint hangar in Everett, Wash., Tuesday night sporting a special "light" livery.

Painted white with blue accents, the 747-8 Freighter unveiled a new twist on the Boeing Commercial Airplanes livery. It features an oversized "8" on the background of the tail as well as "747-8" on the belly.

The light livery, which saves time and expense compared to the full Boeing livery, will remain on the airplane until the flight-test program is completed. After flight test, it will be refurbished and delivered to a customer.
The first freighter will begin preparing for the necessary tests leading up to first flight in early 2010.

Is it just me, or does that longitudinal stripe along the fuselage look as if the controller HW/SW for the lifting stage on which the painters were standing had some sort of sinusoid oscillation issue?

And that grin as seen in the frontal view  (second link) can only be described as inane...

Or?

I guess this sinusoid line should resemble the smile of a dolphin or of a whale in general.
