Will

Carl,

It looks like you're running MSFS in full screen, with PSX on top? You can also try running MSFS in windowed mode, and shrink the window to fit the portion of your monitor that's not covered by PSX.

Hi Will,
Yes I thought keeping it in full screen and overlaying PSX was the better option as things look a bit distorted when windowed mode is used. Unless I need to change the ratio of the window in msfs?
Thanks
Carl

Will

I'm using MSFS 2024 in windowed mode, with Settings > Camera > Zoom=100 (which is the max).

The MSFS window takes up the upper third of the monitor, roughly, and PSX takes up the lower two-thirds. There is some distortion at the edges of the screen, but it's not too bad--or at least, it's greatly improved compared to MSFS 2020.

Thanks Will, Just for interest I never ran 2020 but I'll revisit my solution based on this. Does yours generate an acceptable zoomed image of the runway where the lines are more parallel than converging? And you also get a good feel of 'slow' ground speed? One of my first tries felt like I was landing at a very high speed!
Carl

Will

Carl, yes, to my eyes it looks good. I know the "slow" groundspeed you're talking about, and you do see it. It's subjective, I suppose, but I find it convincing. The key is getting the zoom right on Settings > Camera. The correct zoom factor will depend on the proportions of your MSFS screen, but for me (1/3 of the vertical height of the monitor, and all of the width), a zoom of 100% works for me.

I don't know if you use a 3840x2160 monitor, but just in case you do, here is my layout file for PSX:

In the layouts that aren't full-screen, MSFS covers the non-PSX portion of the monitor.

Hi Gary.

FYI - I think there still is some issues on the altitude.

I am on v20.0.3 and for the first time on Vatsim ever-  the controllers ask me if I am on STD setting which I am. On a short hop from EKCH to LIRF and shortly after top of climb I showed approx 100feet above my flighlevel on Vatsim. Now after 2 hours into the fligh that discrepancy has increased to 400feet.

So in short I right now have to select 32600 feet on MCP@STD to show FL330 on Vatsim.

Thanks
Best regards
Kurt

Gary,

Latest update now shows the other aircraft at the correct altitude, but my altitude to be off by approximately 500 feet.

I have no idea about the complexity of this data pipe transformer ... is there a way to feed the MSFS (thus VATSIM) altitude back into the system to at least signal a discrepancy to the pilot, and maybe shift a few knobs slowly to get them to agree, with the PSX altitude assumed correct and the MSFS altitude slewing to match it?

When discussing this problem, it would help of people clearly stated **why** they think "VATSIM" sees them at the wrong altitude.

Did you check your altitude in VatSpy? VATSIM Radar (a.k.a https://vatsim-radar.com/)? Euroscope? Some other source?

(if you compare e.g VatSpy and VATSIM Radar for any online aircraft, you will see that they show different altitudes - I suspect VatSpy might show the raw number sent to the network and Radar might try to correct the raw data to make it match what the aircraft altimeter shows).

Having said this, I have also got one complaint from ATC since upgrading, but at that time I also accidentally had live weather set to off in PSX, so I did not look further into it, and since then I have not made any online flights with ATC.

Unless I'm mistaken, that is exactly what Gary is already doing in the WASM module. So an additional mechanism is not needed, we just need to get the first one to work reliably. :)

Ah yes - make sure you have live weather on in both MSFS and PSX too otherwise you will get an issue when MSFS live QNH is different to PSX.

Previously we were several thousand feet off due to the MSFS atmosphere model.

Today Vat-spy showed me to be at my assigned FL340 (33980).  It showed the aircraft around me to be 280 feet higher than I was.

At the same time VATSIM Radar showed me to be at FL340 (33720) and the aircraft around me at their FL340 (33980).

I verified that my internet was on and the weather was Active on MSFS2024 and PSX.

Hi Gary - confirmed on - flipped off and back on again to be sure.

Right now I am on a flight at FL310@STD with PSX showing FL310, VAT SPY showing 310000 feet altitude and VATSIM Radar showing 30564 Feet altitude. ATC is again questioning if I have STD Set.

TCAS in PSX shows a A321 above me at FL360 at +4600 Ft relative (everyone else in the area is offset 400ft ish below)

A bit confused why Vat Spy and Vatsim Radar is showing different values.

Local QNH is 1030

Thanks
