Strange behaviour

[B747-400]

Hi,

I shut down the bird after landing. But despite the fact that I switched off all the power, I still had inidication on some LCDs, buttons, radios, MCP etc. see screenshot below.

I pressed event recording immediately, so below ther's the .situ as well.

Now, when loading this event .situ again, I get a completeley different behaviour. All is off, but MCP still showing digits.

I have absolutley no idea what's going on

Restarting my networked PSXs in the sim should be an emergency solution only.

I also do not understand, why event recording saves a situ which shows a completely other scenario after reloading. Yes, PSX was closed / restarted in the meantime.

A situ file contains just 1% of all variables. Those 1% are supposed to cause deterministic chain reactions in the other 99% of all variables. This principle has been working fine in 99.9999% of the time in the past 15 years. Unfortunately, the problem you're reporting is something new to me. there's a problem with your situ file with the string after "VoiceAtc" which doesn't end with a semicolon. It should end with a semicolon. This string stores the setting on the Instructor's Voice-ATC page. Are you using an add-on that injects this setting via network?

There's no semicolon after Daniel. So PSX cannot read "124660@Daniel". Instead, PSX gets a stringIndexOutOfBoundsException which you should see in your Aerowinx/Logs/errors.txt.

Before I start analysing the reported MCP problem, I first want to clarify this situ file problem as it may affect other parts of PSX as well.

Yes, I wrote an addon setting the ATC - obviously theres a bug in one of the write lines!!

Of course I will recheck all this, do some thorough testing today!!

In your situ file the stored MCP status is "show LCD digits":

McpLcd=1

Normally, in a cold & dark situ, it should be this:

McpLcd=0

Now the question is: How could it be set to "1" during the shutdown sequence and why didn't this problem occur earlier in the past 15 years? It must be a very rare coincidence, and, looking at my program code, I suspect it has to do with the MD & T switch position on the overhead panel during the shutdown process. I guess you're using a hardware switch for that and a network interface. Is it possible that the interface sends a switch-in-TEST-position status to PSX during the shutdown? There might be a missing MCP status update flag when power is removed from the MCP while the MD & T is in TEST position and the digits are flashing. A nanosecond is already long enough for this effect; you won't neccesarily see any flash.

yes, I've HW switch using SimStack! The switch is set do "Dim"

But I guess I have some troubles here in my NW:

I closed and restarted the PSX Server on my Server PC. On Server the Network / Main page says "Disconnect client 2". So this client must be connected.

When I check PSX client 2 on the corresponding PC the Network / Main page sys "Connected". But when I load a new situ on the PSX server, the client won't be updated. No PFD / ND, nothing whatsoever.

On Client side the "This client reconnects after ..." is checked!

I have to Stop and Start the Connection on Client 6 manually.

Do you have any idea, what can cause this? Once when all Clients are connected, there are no visible troubles.

But I assume, that the shutdown troubles are rootet back here ...

Yes, it looks like your network instances are no longer in sync. And that's probably the cause of your shutdown problem.

Whenever something unusual happens, please check the errors.txt file in each instance.

in the errors.txt files I got a lot of lines ... see below.

As mentioned: when flying there are no recognized problems (at least what I feel).

What makes me wonder: I kept the errors.txt open in an text editor. As I closed PSX, he wrote the line that default.situ was not found. But I have another situ file declared as start situ

StartSitu=-- 1  Cold and dark cockpit.situ

and this file is existing and available. PSX finds the file, because when I rename it for testing, then I have way more error messages and he delcares the -- 1 cold and dark as missing as well.

Edit: But no prob with default.situ - I copied one of my start-situs and renamed it as default.situ!!
Edit: And the addon who causes the missing semicolon, did not run during my tests today ...

Regarding the errors.txt: I recognized that the file will be overwritten, as soon as PSX is restarted. Is there a "history" available anywhere? Otherwhise I wont have any more data regarding the NW troubles...

You need a valid Default.situ that contains no errors. You must not delete this file. On the Instructor's file lists you cannot delete the Default.situ -- it's intentionally blocked.

The errors.txt is reset at every sim start. There's no history.

Hi,

still testing, but looks good right now. Err msgs gone.

But still one strange thing I cannot get rid of.

When I load a cold and dark situ, switch on Batt, Stdby Prw etc. (see video), both CDUs starting with <ACARS on 2L but <FMC on 1L is missing. I have to click any button, then <FMC becomes visible. Despite the fact that <FMC is not visible, the button is working and goes to IDENT when pressed.

The video below is from my sim server, but I can reproduce behaviour as often as I want on my test rig as well. All Win 10. No other SW, addons running. PSX only.

BUT: this behaviour is only visible, as soon as another PSX client is connected. Without a client connected, both <FMC and <ACARS appears same time.

On my sim Server another PSX client was connected over network and hub. On my test rig both PSX client/server run on same PC via 127.0.0.1 10747 - and NO error messages!!

This happens with all of my cold and dark situs!

I have the same behaviour in my sim. (although my left and right have the FMC L1 missing)
I asked about it but could not resolve the problem.
Again it only happens when PSX clients (I have 3) are connecting to the server.
I do not have anything else connected to the sim when this happens. But it always happens when I use my saved cold n dark situ.

I asked about it but could not resolve the problem.

Just found the old thread and digged a bit deeper:

Panning or zooming PSX frame won't solve it. It's also not the case that we miss a line of the data stream. I dumped PSXs data stream with and without clients.

The stream-snippets below shows, additional Qs64=________________________ and Qs92 are sent when we power up the bird and at least one PSX client is connected. They blank out the <FMC text.
