State of the Art for PSX + P3Dv5....

So... tired of fighting with the many inconsistencies in MFS 2020, and missing my best addons for P3D, I decided to install P3Dv5.4 (v6 was already released, but most of my addons don't work with it...).

What is the best solution to get PSX working with P3Dv5, including a free 744 model if possible ?

Any links & hints really appreciated ;-)

Thx!

There are 2 options for P3D scenery generators.

PSX Externalsim and WidePSX. Both are freeware and can be downloaded from the respective topics. Each one has their own unique befenifits so read through each one to see which one is best for you.

You may have issues finding a 747-400 which works with WidePSX because changes to MSFS over time rendered the Posky conversions I did virtually useless. As a result many people have been using the -8.
I do have a BA 400 which works which I'll happily share if you need it.

@funkyhurt,

thank you for the reply, anyway I am not on MFS 2020 but rather on P3dv5 ( MFS is an elephant in the room for me :-) )

I believe for P3Dv5 I can find a 747-400 freebie, no?

What is inconsistent about FS2020 in the context of scenery for PSX?

I need to run FS2020 for other reasons, but I'm rather a convert now I am.

It's probably my fear of it being too heavy to use together with PSX in my rig. But I should probably give it a fair try...

Weather depiction is yet another aspect of MFS I really don't like, at least not as much as I do in P3D + Asctive Sky, without EA clouds... They can be said to look "cartoonish" for nowadays standards, but I find the way they translate the real world scenarios more realistic.

In MFS, and for that matter in X-Plane 12 too, we have new "volumetric" approaches. They can paint the skies in a rather interesting and at times, nice looking way, but unfortunately not as realistically as I still see it being painted by ASP3D.

It happens that since yesterday I started reading across Gary's "PSX.NET.MFS.WASM" thread and the only part that I still didn't find to go ahead and give it a try is how to find the best combination of PSX layouts to go with it :-) but now I am closer to try it, and, who knows, fall in love with it, than before ...

FWIW I was never able to get the desired smoothness in P3D...

Carl,

thank you for the hint, specially now that I decided to try PSX with MFS.

It wouldn't surprise me to see me returning to PSX standalone, which is what has always happened after trying different solutions.

In the times of PS1 I was fine with fs9 and then fsx, but never got good results with PSX and P3D and XP10 and 11 either, so, I really look fwd to be able to test the MFS bridge :-)

Key that you say that.... I always went back to PSX standalone because of smoothness- Gary solved that for me.

And... indeed my first tests run this afternoon, and not yet with an optimized solution for my 27" monitor and 1920x1080 resolution, plus proper layouts, revealed an unparalleled level of smoothness, just as you preconized !

This is really encouraging !

Again, thanks for the hint !

I've found P3dv6 to be smoother than MSFS2020.  The current problem with P3dv6 is a lot of the airports are out of date. In P3dv5.4 I corrected all the locations where I fly.  Version 6 has renamed some files which is causing me issues with the conversion of my custom sceneries.  Once I get the scenery situation solved I most likely will go back to P3dv6 full time.

Gary has done a good job of getting MSFS2020 into PSX.  Just for the record I'm not having any issues with MSFS2020.

Hey Bluestar,
Which scenery bridge are you using for P3DV6?

I am using PSX.NET as my scenery bridge from PSX to P3dv6.

Hervé will probably do something about it, just as he did for previous versions including V5.

The problem I'm having is not something that Herve can fix.  Some of the issues are duplicate taxi signs, misplaced buildings, runways in the wrong location, closed or missing or misplaced taxiways.  All these issues must be fixed with a scenery editor.

Thank you Blue Star. Which "plane" are you using in P3DV6?
