MMSM Airport and Weather

Upon arriving on a flight from KDFW to MMSM the Metar for MMSM was not on the Weather page.  MMSM is a valid reporting station.  Instead of MMSM the Weather page was showing MMMX as the nearest airport which is about 30 NM southwest of MMSM.   I created a flight from MMSM back to KDFW.  With the aircraft setting at MMSM I pushed the "Nearest Airport" button on the Weather page and it shows MMMX. If I check "Set zones by flight track..." the nearest airport shows up as MMCV which is more than a 235 NM north of MMSM and not located on the route I created.
I am able to manually enter MMSM in the "Nearest airport" box and a current Metar is displayed but goes away if I press the "Nearest airport" button or check "Set zones by flight track".

I'm sure I've done something wrong, just not sure what.  :-[

To automatically determine the METAR stations near the flight track, PSX uses a METAR stations look-up table instead of the airport look-up table. This is because not all airports have a METAR station, and because some METAR stations are installed on a ship etc. The METAR stations from the look-up table can be viewed on the Instructor map when the "Met" checkbox is selected. Most of them are paired with an airport, but not all.

I built this METAR stations look-up table myself some years ago as this METAR stuff is not provided with the ARINC data from the nav database suppliers. So a few METAR stations at smaller airports may be missing here and there for the automatic determination along the flight track. But you can still enter the ICAO code of a database airport in that edit field as you correctly did. That's the solution in such a case. That manual entry will be used to find the related METAR in your last downloaded METAR files.

Thanks Hardy for getting back to me.  MMSM is a new airport and will eventually become the main airport for Mexico City.  All freight operators have been told they must relocate to MMMX by this summer.  DHL just built a $55 Million facility at MMSM.  There is also one runway that is dedicated to the military.  One thing for sure it is a lot easier to get into than MMMX.  :)
