If I select "Set zones by flight track and downloaded METARs", and I allow donloading of METARS, does it also update atmospehric conditions at altitude and between METAR stations?

In other words, will it based on downloaded information generate winds aloft, turbulence, etc., or will it be based on current static settings shown under "Planet".

Afer reading the NG FMC manual, I think I have the answer - buy NG FMC :) Off to get my credit card.

The METAR wind & OAT data in the 7 local zones is vertically interpolated with the tropopause wind & OAT data on the Planet page. Page 43 in the PSX manual has some more details.

The corridor data (NG FMC bonus feature) overrides the Planet data within the respective corridor path.

The METAR clouds etc. in the 7 local zones provide the weather effects that influence the windshield view and weather radar etc.

The SIGMET data (another NG FMC bonus feature) also provides weather effects. They are mixed with the METAR effects. At places where a SIGMET effect overlaps a METAR effect, the more dangerous of the overlapping effects will prevail in the simulation; e.g. when the SIGMET says "icing" while the METAR says "dry and warm", the SIGMET will win. Same for CB versus no CB, or turbulence versus no turbulence, etc.

The "Corridor" feature in the NG FMC package is extremely powerful. Just cut and paste the wind section from your flight plan into PSX, and then your PSX world will match your flight plan's upper atmosphere, +/- the degree of randomness that you want.

Alex's,

I think you said you used BACARS, in which case it will inject the wind corridor for you when you click INIT DATA REQ on the acars page in BACARS.

Cheers
