I got a Java error when i tried to run it (which version is needed?), so I wrote my own in Python. :)
make_gatefinder_database.py

Good enough for now, but it would be nice to figure out how to talk to MSFS2024 directly and extract just the parking info for one airport. Then the data would always be up to date after installing new scenery and LittleNavMap would not be needed.

Unrelated feature request: if anyone updates GateFinder or writes a new one, I would love to have a few buttons to fine-tune the aircraft position (e.g FORWARD, LEFT, HEADING+, ...) and maybe a button to save the offset from the original position and then use that offset if you use that gate again.

following the installation instructions, when I run makerunways.exe I get "Not able to continue! No scenery located(see RUNWAYS.TXT) ".

What do I need to do?

If you are using MSFS 2024 (I suspect you might be since you wrote about 2024 in other posts), you cannot use makerunways.exe (read the last couple of posts before your own for details).

Summary: since most scenery in MSFS 2024 is streamed from the network, makerunways.exe (which just reads files on your MSFS computer) cannot access the gate information for most airports. If you have no addon airports installed at all, I guess you might get the error you mentioned ("No scenery located").

The workaround several people found independently is to install LittleNavMap (which has learnt how to query a running MSFS 2024 to extract the needed information) and then use a little utility (joergalv wrote one in Java and I wrote one in Python) to convert the LittleNavMap data into the g5.csv file that Gatefinder needs.

Ah yes - It was on my list to use a different file format (we can download from navigraph for example)...

Bluestar

I don't know if this helps, but when I need to locate a gate I scroll-in using SimAware.  It almost always has the gate numbers and the taxiways to get there displayed.

Now that Gary has released GateFinder V2.0, my little workaround has become obsolete, and was removed from dropbox.
I'd recommended to use GateFinder V2.0 instead. https://aerowinx.com/board/index.php/topic,7853.0.html
