Being busy for a few hours now and reading several items about the alignment of a second instance to the FDS CDU.
Solved the black screen probleem but the remaining thing is the right alignment and the accompanying "zoom limit( blue -/+) The picture shows the max of the zoom in...can't get it any further. The size of the second instance on the hardware CDU  is 1745X1040. On my other hardware CDU the size is about 900 to 700-ish. I'm stuck and not only the zoom function is limited but my brain too :-)

Is this a new FDS CDU? Do they use ultra-HD now on this little screen?

I didn't expect such a high resolution on a CDU 10 years ago :-)

I will try to increase the zoom limit in the next PSX update.

Hi Hardy,

It is just an old school, First generation VGA FDS CDU....That is why the resolution puzzles me !? But an increase of the zoom limit would be great. I recall similar problems with my other FDS CDU.

The window settings of the hardware CDU were 1920 by 1080. Reduced the resolution to 1024 by 768. Problem solved for 99 percent: this setting is to small for the screen but maybe I can tinker the resolution.

try 800x 600 as well. I have 3 of these and have not come across the issue you are seeing.

I have a CDU from FDS as well, and I am not seeing the zoom issue that you are seeing.

In Windows, set the display resolution of the FDS "monitor" to 800x600 and see if that fixes your problem.

Thanks guys, with some tinkering in the setup of the CDU screen en the mentioned resolution solved the problem

The zoom limit is now increased to factor 8 -- in PSX 10.157:

Hi

I have a problem with a FDS VGA CDU that was working perfectly when Gary Oliver gave it to me a couple of weeks ago, but now suddenly I have a black screen problem. How did you solve your black screen problem?

My FDS CDU is linked by an HDMI to VGA cable. NB it was working last week! I have tried two different HDMI-VGA cables, and two different computers to supply input. Both computers "see" the additional display in Display Settings when the HDMI end cable is plugged into the video card (but really they are just picking up on the electronics in the adapter as I do not have to plug in the VGA end to get this far).

With the CDU all plugged in and powered up the USB side of it works fine, all buttons work and LEDs come on and off. However the screen remains black (a) in the FDS Test Utility - I get "NO SYNC", and also (b) in PSX with a powered-up CDU. I hear the "clonk" when the screen should become active but nothing happens. In PSX I can send input from the unit and eg the EXEC LED lights up when it should.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

The funny thing is when I first got it, I think I got NO SYNC and a black screen in the test utility but then it "just worked" in PSX.

Does the PICT button on the back of the unit have any function?

I don't think I can help, but have you tried Instructor > Preferences > Basics and selecting "Allow frame stretching across multiple monitors"?

I have tried that, thanks.  The problem seems to be one step back though, a complete failure of any video output.

Try a standard vga to vga connecton. Take the hdmi out of the equation. Only then would I consider a display problem if the problem persists.

Sadly I have nothing that outputs good old VGA any more

In that case, make sure your using an active hdmi to vga adapter or you can by a used mini pc with vga output for next to nothing these days. It is possible, but I doubt you have a display failure. Have you tried > In the instructor station - check show screen border, uncheck the lock and zoom.  In your display settings make sure your CDU monitor is orientated in the correct position compared to your main monitor, extend these displays is chosen and that the display resolution is set to 600x800.
