787 Dream)liner

Hi All,
Purchasing the 787 from a P3D developer has got me invested in learning more about this aircraft (for some reason I had zero interest in the 787 until recently :) )
In relation to the weights, I understand the ZFW of the -8 is 120 tons which did surprise me considering the ZFW of (comparable) 767-300ER is 90 tons. Of course the -8 {and rest of 787 family} is more fuel efficient. However a difference of 30 tons (ZFW) does surprise me, is there one specific thing that is attributible to the extra 30 tons or just a cumulation of parts?

Is that the OEW Operating Empty Weight? If the addon developer has only given you that ZFW option you might have been sold a little short.

Thanks for the reply and yes I used the wrong wording :) I meant OEW
787-8 - OEW is 120 tons and
767-300 - OEW is 90 tons so really I was trying to attribute the extra in weight.

So understand from what you are saying and it is perhaps difficult to do (as I am solely from measurements) that she is a much bigger plane?

As far as effiency goes I was able to (virtually dispatch) a difference of 7 tons (in favour of the Dreamliner) on an identical flight (once in the 767 and then again in the 787!)

Thanks for the reply - the range chart is a big help to really see the implications of the the extra range!

I am no expert at all and just "fishing in the dark" but when I compare them, i see that the dreamliner can carry almost an additional 1/3 of the fuel of the 767. The Plane is not even that much bigger, just lighter because of it's complete compound material body and wings. The main difference are the bigger tanks with a lot more capacity, and due to that the enormous wide range it can fly without stopping.

Plus those incredibly powerful & immensely fuel efficient engines added to that larger fuel capacity.

I had actually forgot the batteries! That and the enclosure they resorted to building to house them probably explains the extra 30tons OEW ! :)
