I realize that this has probably been asked and or discussed, but if I were to invest in an engravity mcdu, would that still have the plug and play compatibility with PSX? Same goes for the aerosoft mcp and the go flight bridge?

The reason I ask is that I want to future proof my sim as much as possible for PSX while still having the best possible operability with ps1.

Cheers,

-Joe

All of these would not be plug and play as of today.

Concerning the MCDU, I intend to (eventually, not likely very soon) adapt my universal ARINC 739 MCDU to PSX, which then automagically would support anything that the MCDU currently supports, which includes Engravity.

But I would not at this moment recommend the Engravity MCDU. I'd rather go for something that lives on a normal computer, with the display fed into the MCDU and the keyboard into the computer. Such a system is guaranteed to live much longer. Besides, I personally don't like the Engravity's display and general flimsiness (unless they upgraded). With a simple (second-hand) netbook-type PC with Windows XP, you have everything to drive either the Engravity MCDU or, say, the FDS MCDU.

GoFlight Bridge: this is not going to be any big issue. It will not work today, but I can pretty much promise that it will be done.

Aerosoft MCP: this is in the same league. As long as certain people have this kit in their full flight deck sims, I likely will port the stuff to PSX. That said, it may be prudent to look for an alternative, as no electronic device has the eternal life and spares are getting extremely rare.

Hi All
Lets first establish that I am a programming ignoramus!
My understanding of the use of Jeroens Broker program is that it works only by reading the changing variables of the PS1 program. Certainly B2E is interdependent.
My question therefore is:-  does the new programming language that Hardy is using for PSX include variables and can these be accessed by Broker/B2E?

I intend to create a PSX - Aerosoft MCP link. I decoded the MCP comms some years ago and wrote an app when I was intending to use its expansion ports. When it became a legacy product I decided this was too risky. Creating a PSX connection to it will not be difficult. Whenever I turn the MCP on I wonder if it will still work. It must fail eventually but at least there are other alternatives now for when that time comes. Meanwhile, it remains an excellent product.

Derek, communicating with PSX is much the same as with the Broker. All the variables are available, many more in fact, and a network savvy programmer would have no trouble converting your existing Broker code for PSX. I recommend finding such a person, even if you have to pay him. He would probably be young and cheap anyway, and possibly even a she.

Hi Garry!

Regarding your Aerosoft MCP <-> PSx interface, I'm fully ready to test it whenever you want! I think I'll have to plug my MCP into a USB port (instead of the "old" serial interface)... I just happen to have found the USB cable that was supplied!
I no longer have any computer running Windows, but I have found the "Wine" emulation system that enables me to run all Windows applications I need (TOPCAT, iTunes, and some other stuff) under Linux Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and 11.04!
Keep up the good work, Garry!

Hi Garry

I am very interested in VisualPS1 for FSX and i am wondering if there is any news on your development?

Not impatient, - just eager to hook my PS1 setup up to FSX for some eyecandy :)

Thanks in advance

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for your interest. Beta is stable. I am now packaging and preparing the website. I've been away for the past fortnight. Shouldn't be too long now.
