QuoteIncident: Longtail B744 over Atlantic on Apr 11th 2022, thrust lever causes engine shut down in flight

I see the thrust lever "potentiometers" are only dual channel. There is a signal comparison between the two channels.

There is also a value range validity check and a "sin^2 + cos^2 = 1" test.

Loss of proper data will result in:
idle thrust if mach <0.15
last known command if mach >0.15.

B747-400

Interesting reading and facts!

Btw: congratulations Hardy, on your 13K posting!  ;)

APU pipe?

It would be nice if Atlanta could donate this pipe to the garden owners so that they can put flowers into it.

John H Watson

Looks like Engineering didn't latch the APU access doors properly. Not sure how the doors took out the tailpipe though. It sits embedded in the tailcone.

Will be intersting to find out what caused this as most cowlings and compartments have pressure relief doors.

If unlatched, the door halves will simply drop/hinge downwards and get caught in the slipstream and will be torn off by aerodynamic loads.

Looks like it was a PW  L/H core cowl again similar to this one https://avherald.com/h?article=4b571308

How are the soldiers secured on the cargo deck?

I've seen some palettes being loaded onto KC-10s which have seats bolted on them.
However, N480MC is just a regular 747 pax version, previously registered as N119UA.
