Hi,

What kind of autostart do the PW equipped 747s have?

I'm struggling to find photos of anything but RR variants.

Avi

Well, El Al didn't have one and they started them manually one by one and it took forever (at least it felt like it)

I presume that CX's -467ERF have engine autostart switches. I have not seen autostart button on the engine start panel.

No autostart button.

Switches visible in this link.

But I am sure that our resident CX pilots will confirm.

Just an additional info: There's an option to have 4 autostart switches (one for each engine) above the EEC panel; in that case there's no all-in-one autostart switch on the ignition panel.

I think that instagram photo shows 4 switches.

You can install them in PSX as well (page 516).

United744,

Cathay Pacific's PW4062 ERFs had the four individual autostart switches that Hardy mentioned.

Mariano

Confirmed.  Via our SOP, we will select the auto ignition left or right (to the applicable PF's side) in our pre-flight flow, and set the ignitors to BOTH in the after-start flow.

Interesting. So autostart itself was a customer option rather than standard equipment?

Thank you!

I believe that UAL, NWA (DAL), SIA (9V-SM* fleet) did not have this (autostart) feature installed.

UAL: https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/1/5/7/3884751.jpg?v=v40029eae6b9
NWA (DAL):https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/5/0/8/4764805.jpg?v=v47df3fce65a
SIA:https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/9/0/5/0081509.jpg?v=v40
https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/6/2/1/1189126.jpg?v=v40

And here is an example of individual autostart panel (no single autostart button);:

Personally, I don't mind it (unless there are other benefits that I am not aware of) as at least there is less automation in the cockpit. :)

Best!

May I confirm that if the 4-switches AutoStart system only installed on PW aircraft, while the all-in-one AutoStart system installed only on GE and RR? Are there any cases different? I did not see any all-in-one on PW model. Neither 4-switches on GE or RR.

As far as our collective wisdom goes, this is correct  ;D

P&W was slow to come to the game regarding Autostart. They have special boxes to control the Autostart system, called Supplemental Control Units.
