Watching Youtube pictures of flight decks I often see a circle on the ND around an airport. What is the purpose ?

As I understand it comes from the fix page?
Britjet has a great video covering the fix page in the Tutorials.

Ton,
as non-pilot, I believe that fixed circles provide various information and hint to pilots.
On departure, they can help with Minimum safety altitudes, radials, etc.
On arrival, among already mentioned information, these circles can be "gates", suggesting that you want to be at certain distance, altitude, and speed from an airfield at a given point.

Peter (Britjet) provides more information on his tutorial pages:

You can also activate ND Energy Management Circles (see page 325 on Aerowinx Manual 2017)

Best!
