Hello all,
given recent bad news (especially BA's unexpected retirement of B744 fleet), I wanted to share with you this Ultimate Cockpit series video from Saudia B748F.
Producers are improving footage angles and quality with each release. I recommend watching other uploads as well.

Hope you will find it joyful and inspirational. I did. :)

It looks like Saudi has a 4 headed crew: 2 pilots, a flight engineer and a loadmaster. It gives a good insight in the differences between the 744 and /8. I also enjoyed the interaction between the two gentlemen

I understood flight engineers and load masters are regularly added to long-haul around-the-planet cargo flights to make them more independent from ground services. Is this correct?

It must depend on the airline/situation. Atlas uses local engineering and loadmasters, but our local airport had an dedicated Atlas-hired tech rep (usually an ex-Qantas engineer). Animal handlers are added to the crew as required.

Whenever we do a charter we have a loadmaster as a ride along, who is responsible for supervising the local crews loading the aircraft, and doing the weight/balance.  Depending on the situation, and the availability of contract maintenance, we might also have a ride along mechanic.

All depends on the type of flight. The more scheduled/network, the less people.
