Speed Entries on CDU LEGS Page

Hi all,

Quick question to refresh my failing memory and resolve a friendly debate...

Am I right in saying that it should not be possible to enter a speed constraint for a waypoint on the LEGS page without an accompanying altitude constraint, at least in the legacy FMC software?

I am sure this was/is the case in PSX (i.e entering 220/ would give INVALID ENTRY, but 220/3000A would be fine). The FCOM doesn't appear to mention this limitation, but I think all the aircraft in said airline's fleet are now NGFMC equipped so I suspect this may be one of the changes.

Hi Simon,

you're right. It's invalid in the legacy FMC, but valid in the NG FMC.

I have a Virgin FCOM from 2006 that speaks of the limitation with the legacy FMC and the need to enter speed/alt restrictions in pairs.
