client control server CDU?

Is there a way to have a client on hostname ADDONBOX that has the pref and layout setup for my FDS CDU to control SIMBOX server CDU?  Thank you in advance!

If you mean the PSX client: The host must have an address number or the word "localhost".

If this is an FDS client specific question: I don't know the answer.

Hardy,
Via two computers.  I enter the IP address of the server on the client.  The server and client run on two different computers.

I enter the IP address of the server on the client.

That's the correct way.

Just out of curiosity...

what is the "FDS CDU" ?

Yeah, it's pretty nifty!  ;)  The only downside is the software that makes it work isn't very stable so I've created a rule in process lasso to restart it anytime it becomes unresponsive.  Seems to keep it sane.  There are sooo many options in this sim via the CDU.  I have so much to learn but that's what makes it fun!

Jason, I thought the CDU uses an instance of PSX and does not have its own software!?

FDS  supplies the unit and the drivers   and it simply works with PSX (resize) the view a very cost competitive solution actually  I have never experienced an unresponsive unit.. if you want to go real that be a whole nother can of woppie

It's expensive but worth it if you are serious about this hobby.  Who wants to mouse or type in their flight plan, performance data, etc.

Just asking because people here likely will know -- is this CDU basically a VGA display plus a USB keyboard, possibly with a few more tricks for the discrete lamps? What does "driver" mean in this context?

I have a few other applications in mind that are not flightsim related but I need a tiny bit more detail before committing to it.

It's basically a LCD screen with the standard 744 CDU buttons and LED illuminations for certain conditions - i.e. exec, etc.  If you scroll down on that page you can browse the manual for it, which goes over what it can interface with, etc.  I hope this helps.

Just to chime in here...

Never had a single issue with the FDS-CDU drivers in my sim in 5 years of operation.  I also have not heard of any other simmer having any issues, and us 747 sim builders talk to each other all the time.

I suggest it's something wrong on your setup Jason, USB power? Some kind of third party program?

Cheers

Interesting.  I'm glad to hear this.  I setup my power plan to never sleep but that didn't help.  The only things I have running are navigraph simconnect, process lasso, nvidia, and the CDU software.  I basically turn all of the real time checks, host based firewalls, etc off in windows.  At any rate, After a while, if I right click on the icon, it stops responding or the unit itself will stop responding in mid flight.  Hm, I will have to further investigate and do some log parsing.

It was an environmental issue and I've resolved it.   It's been stable longer that it ever was in the past.
