ATC Robot Ground Handling

It may be something I'm doing wrong but I it seems that the ATC is not working for me after departing the gate. Here's what's happening (starting at CYWG Gate 18): I listen to ATIS, switch to Ground, press R/T, receive clearance to pushback and start, press R/T to acknowledge, switch MIC to FLT, long-press R/T to start pushback, follow instructions and start engines, typically stop pushback before I go too far, switch MIC to VHF, press R/T to request taxi, Ground says contact Tower, press R/T to acknowledge, switch frequencies, press R/T to contact Tower, Tower says to taxi to Rwy 31, (I think this is good so far), but when I press R/T to acknowledge Tower tells me to "Line up and wait"?? I am still a long way from the runway. Once I taxi and line up, Tower senses this and clears me to takeoff. Then comms proceed normally.

I was flying with ExternalSim and P3D for visuals. Any idea why Tower didn't give me time to taxi to the runway? Or am I expecting too much from the robot(s).
