Flying online with 747IPC

Hi,

I finally made it online, but still missing some tools to be able to fly.

- dowloaded WinTWY V1.16 - 31 Oct 2004 but missing SCENARY.TWY file, could not find it on Jeroen website? I really need to be able to see taxiways in order to move around the airport.
- Broker and SB747 are working, managed to send text messages to ATC. How can I listen and talk to ATC instead of typing. I read somewhere about RogerWilco application, but could not find it. Jeroen mentioned on he's website that SB747 was limitated compared to other tools used by MFS, any tips on this side?

Basically I need to be practical if I want to fly, I guess you already have all this addons installed and working, I would really appreciate if you could guide me so I can setup and fly as soon as possible online.

With kind regards,

Lau

I am not sure the taxiway file is still available but I know where to look.

SB747 still functions perfectly with AVC, the other variant of RogerWilco. Some people here should still have the installation file. There are very few limitations of SB747 compared to the existing SBs, to my utter surprise. Says something about VATSIM progress...

Thank you very much Jeroen,

I will try to install this later scenary file this evening. I will also post a new topic to look for this AVC addons (equivalent to RogerWilco) and try to complete my setup.

My first plan is to establish a shutle between EGPF and EGLL and follow the Big Tutorial flight. Short flight and lots of precedures in a hoepfully busy online environement  ;)

I guess you guys use MFS to see the scenary (but a second PC for just that will be too dary. Hopefully I will be able to use the taxiway addon as a starter.

I must say I was impressed by the early time of your reply, do you ever sleep  :)
(This being said I went to bed just 2 hours before...)

In French there is a way of saying (bad translation   ) When you love, you dont count...

Take care and thanks,

Lau

Can i ask can we use PS1 online without MSFS?? i remember once SB747 wasn't allowed on vatsim as this changed now?

Luckily it never was NOT allowed on VATSIM, and even more luckily it still works!

The main trouble is that you don't see where you go on the ground. This makes ground operations a hassle beyond belief, especially during busy hours.

Although it isn't "full out", I would sort of recommend the following.

Go online at a suitable position on the field, such as at a gate, using as accurately a positioning mechanism as possible. Don't laugh but my ACARS combined with the Google Maps interface allows you to put PS1 spot-on on the yellow T without even being online with VATSIM.

Pop up in the virtual world and do all pre-pushback things as usual, including all controller contacts.

Then, crucially, negotiate with the controller a way to get to the runway position, i.e. lined up and waiting. In PS1, the only position you can see is that threshold, and even this isn't always accurately transfered to the real world as PS1 uses 0.1 arc minute placement resolution of its thresholds. You could again use ACARS to align properly but this is much more of a hassle.

IPC 3 offers microshift of the PS1 thresholds to MSFS positions.

In brief, you need clearance to taxi basically straight from the gate to the threshold and you don't see others.

If this is not possible due to traffic, ideally you remove your ship from the virtual world while maintaining contact with the controller. Sometimes, but not always, shutting down your transponder will be sufficient to do this. Other people may know better ways of obtaining the same effect. You want to become invisible to controllers and traffic, without dropping offline. Hm, if I were still maintaining SB747 I would know what to do...

When invisible, or when being explicitly ignored, move to near the threshold. Then report holding short. Wait until the controller clears you onto the runway, and then move there, and drop your cloak. From now on, it's operations as usual, until 10-15 seconds after vacating the landing runway at the other end.

Likely, other people have interesting ideas to contribute to this alternate procedure. With PSX we will have the same challenge, i.e., you still want to hook up MSFS (or whatever other sim is then used for online ATC) just to get the ground layout and traffic visible. But with PSX we can cheat much more, to make MSFS-less operations a better option. The more ideas, the better, though.

Managed my first successful online flight with WinTWY at EGPF airport. Furthermore had a controller giving me lessons on how to use ATC properly in the UK. Trying to do the same in an other airport might not work, it all depends on how similar are the WinTWY and MFS scenery files for a particular airport (Knowing that 99.9% of pilots are on MFS).

Enjoy your online flight with real ATC  ;)

Thanks to this forum I am having lots of fun but still working hard and getting nervous during every flight

Best regards,
