PS13a on XP with 747ipc installation problems

Started by Lau, Mon, 18 Oct 2010 17:04

Lau

Hello,

Installation runs smoothly and everything works well, however a little later while flying I get a error message that shots down the simulator.

My translation from french to english might be of a poor quality, but here it goes :

ntvdm.exe application error
instruction to "0x7c92a5f3" uses memori address "0xf6020c9e". memori can not be written.
Select OK to end this program

So

I installed PS13 on normal way and applied patch 1.3a. Simulator starts well on full screen, however rate is interrupted, kind of a laag by engine sounds. If I take out all sounds, game runs smoothly.

Sound card Creative SB X-Fi

Not finding a suitable solution I recalled about a program for Win NT, who never tries never gets... VDMSound2.0.4 (I know I got XP)
Result = Simulators now plays smoothly without interruption or crash, the only minus is that I lost the continuous engine sound, which was nicely modeled with the 747ipc

Hopefully you will have some tips for me to get my PS working properly? It will be really sad for me to miss all the advantages of an install with 747ipc installer...

With best regards and thank you in advance for your assistance and help.

Lau

PS : An other pilot working hes way to fly very soon on the virtual ATC space : )

Wecome to our forum, Lau!

Did you already visit the following link?
http://www.hoppie.nl/747install/

Additionally you may find this older page helpful:
http://aerowinx.com/html/winxp.html
But Hoppies 747IPC Installer should solve most (or even all) known problems.
This latter link should be regarded more as additional help only in case of problems.

But I do not know whether the desribed installation procedures eliminate all continuous engine sound problem. Give it a try and let us know...

Dear Holger,

Thank you very much for your warm welcome message!

For the above, perhaps I was not clear on my message, but unfortunately yes I already went through all this information as this is the way I installed the 747IPC installer. As said in my previous message, with this installer my PS runs well for a little while and then stops with an error message. Please refer to my first message for details.

For the second part of your message, this second link refers to the same page as the first link you provided to me, therefore same situation lol

Thank you for you quick reply.

Looking forward to fix my problem in order to get the training moving and be able to join the virtual ATC space via the Broker program.

With best regards,

Lau

Lau: you won't solve your problem by moving to VDMsound. IPC is a basic necessity for almost anything, especially for the linkup of a scenery generator, which is a necessity for online flying.

Some people have less crashes by disabling some sounds, such as the engines. Not nice, but better than crashes.

Dear Jeroen,

Quote from: Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers in he's websiteThis installer is explicitly meant for XP. I am sure it will also work on Windows 2000. It might work on Vista and Win7. It will also work on Win98 and maybe even ME. Any reports are welcome (you may use my personal issue forum as well).

Saddly I know that without 747IPC install I will miss the big fun! As follows I recorded my testing events :

1st Test on Vista
- Tried to install PS13 and 747IPC on vista laptop, ended up with an error message on the Dos command window as follows, PS did not start as a result :
"
C:\\PS13\\loadps.com
PS1 32-bit extensions loaded
Initialising NTVDM module.
RegisterModule error: 0010
"
This is just for your information - no action required

2nd Test on XP

Quote from: Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers in he's website1. Install the original PS1.3 CD on your machine like it was meant to be installed.
DO NOT run PS1, not even once. Two minutes.
2. Install the 747IPC Auto-Installer on top. A minute.
3. Enjoy.

1. Installation runs smoothly after following above 3 points.
2. PS starts well and works fine with all sounds operating beatifully, really nice work there!
3. As I know game will crash after a while, I try to unable sounds from preference menu in instructor page. Then I try to Quit PS to restart without sounds, but PS crashes in the closing with "ntvdm.exe" error message. This inevitably makes that PS wont be able to save the new settings, meaning not beeing able to fly without sounds.

Strange enough : In preferences I can unable all options exept "Continuous engine sound" which stays in blue caracters and a plain selection box that can not be selected.

Any idea on the possible reasons for this error message, that makes the game crashes on closing?

Misc Observations

1. Below is the error message that I get while flying, again one can see the relation of the problem with NTVDM...

Quote from: Launtvdm.exe application error
instruction to "0x7c92a5f3" uses memori address "0xf6020c9e". memori can not be written.
Select OK to end this program

2. When exiting "Preferences"  in the instructor page, after making a change in the setup, I allways get a window stating "Please exit and reload PrecisionSimulator to initiate Sound Blaster" I am now sure that if I try to Quit the game after this message, the game will crash on exit, therefore not saving any setup changes requested.

I will continue testing and let you know. In the mean time if you have the light to my technical problems I will be more than grateful for your kind help.

With best regards,

Lau

Hi Jeroen,

Things have improved a bit, finally managed to make a full flight without an error message with 747ICP !

What I did was to go in to the 747IPC shorcut properties, options and in command history select delet dupplicate.

Not sure this is the solution but at present I managed a full flight without a PS crash.
Still my other problems with NTVDM.EXE remain, for instance not being able to modify anything in preferences in the instructor page.

Best regards,

Lau

PS: I am new to this, but by reading I mesure the incredible work you have all done around PS, just fantastic.
