Dear all,

allow me to share with you nice video in IMC, albeit in 737NG. What I find amazing is how the runway approach lights just appear. Nothing and suddenly flashing lights. Also, it makes a complete sense to turn of the lights in the final approach phase.

Absolutely!. Even after seeing the approach lights, I've seen guys throw all the lights on and lose the runway or their orientation because of the glare. I've always contended that the lights are for me -- not ATC. I'll even turn the strobes off if they're distracting me. And if you're really pushing the limit, make sure all the instrument lights in the cockpit are dimmed down too. It could make the difference between getting in or missing.

Years ago in the DC-8, in order to certify to less than basic turbojet minimums (300' and 3/4 or 4000 RVR), we were required to do a 3-engine raw data ILS to 100' every six months in the sim.

My airline has a reduced CATI minima OPS SPEC when using flight director in lieu of a HUD, but CATII requires use of AP/FD to the DH. Are these manual CATII's conducted with the use of a HGS or are they simply flight director only?
