Hi all,

if you are looking for the precise location of the localizer antenna, I think it was rather located rather here:
https://www.google.de/maps/place/22%C2%B019'56.0%22N+114%C2%B011'06.0%22E/@22.3322234,114.1844528,260m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d22.3322222!4d114.185
(22°19'56" N 114°11'6.0"E).
I've been there once in 1995.

Guess who filmed that movie? :-)

Re - Old Hong Kong IGS13 approach in PSX

Hi guys

Back when Britjet posted his video of flying the old Checkerboard approx I, being external scenery challenged still, worked up a situ from the old charts to see if one could land 'blind' on the old runway using only PSX native visuals and adding some disco waypoints on the ND to provide orientation on the checkerboard, runway start, threshold and end of runway.  Surprisingly I was actually able to hand fly the approach using cues from the ND and get down in one piece somewhere along where the old runway used to be.  If you want to try it with your system, here's a link to the situ file.  I think I may have posted it some time ago when there was discussion of old Hong Kong approaches, so apologies if you have seen this before.

Oh - and you might want to add some fuel on the Instructors Service tab.  I think I left only ~6 tons in the tank

Cheers,
Torrence

Thanks for the video. Not sure when you were up there but I was a regular sitter in the mid to late 80's

And Torrence, an interesting .situ. Thanks.

Hi Chris,

I was up there on Jan 4th 1995.

But I did not film the youtube movie with the localizer antenna. It was filmed by one of the forum users first to register in this forum, the youtube user is named (Hint!) "Aerowinx Flight Simulations".

Actually, my "own" videos are here (not strictly: it was a good friend of my father you used his [then-]excellent VHS equipment to record the video on 1995/01/04.):

Hi Markus,
I lived at Branksome on May Road with a view from well before the 13 OM to Kai Tak well off the end of 13. On a clear night I could see the sky above SL too and out towards BEKOL. I used to sit on my balcony with a Sony airband radio. My family and friends thought I was nuts!
Thanks for the share of your videos.

One of the Captains I flew with told me that when he first started flying into Kai Tak there was a warning about not straying off course to the north because of the risk of being shot down.  Going into Kai Tak was always a "Captains only" approach.

Gentlemen,

Some years ago I was lucky enough to fly the ANZ 400 simulator into Kai Tak.

Perfect execution! However fortunately the instructor leaned over and instituted
reverse thrust after landing. Only just stopped at the last taxiway. Damn damn damn.
