Hot start procedure question

Let's say we're on the ground, like in situ Training 620 - Autostart ground B - RB211, but on Instructor > Malfunctions > Self-Induced > Start attempts required set to "2" instead of "3."

We're going to start engine 2.

How would the flight crew behave in real life? Obviously if we sit back and watch, what happens is we get a hot start, a spool-down, and then a successful engine start. But my inclination, if I saw an impending hot start, would be to manually move the fuel control switch to cutoff.

1. Would the crew do that, or would they rely on the autostart sequence to cut off the fuel flow?

2. If they got a hot start with the latched red box around the EGT value, would they stop and talk to engineering at that point? Or try again, and if successful, go fly?

1) No. you sit in your hands and let the autostart do its thing.
2) They would prob talk to engineering first. I think that as far as RB211 goes an egt exceedance would depend on how much and for how long, which would be available to them via the CMC and probably datalink. I think they have a set of criteria which decides whether it is ok to go or would need further examination, such as a borosvope inspection.
