Latched msg indications blanked by CANC?

After making a - er - less than perfect - landing, ENG 4 showed FOD damage and vibration with red box around the EGT 4.  Shutdown engine just to be careful, taxi in on 3 engines and parked.  While doing the shut down process, I noticed that when I checked the EFIS messages to see if I had engine 4 related items the red box disappeared when I changed pages with the CANC button, then reappeared only after RCL pushed.  I virtually repaired engine from Instructor's service page with 'Erase latched messages' then but wondered it the red box shouldn't have persisted no matter what I was displaying in the list until it was 'repaired'.  I figured the logic should be keep the error/damage indicator on the display until attended to for this class of malfunction (if I didn't do anything about it the next crew in might just forget to push RCL and not notice it until engine start).  Does the real thing do this?

Hi Torrence,

The real aircraft works in the same way, the red box is used as a reminder that the engine has had an exceedance, the full profile of the exceedance can be seen on the engine exceedance maintenance page, which is accessible through the CDU.

Hi Torrence,

the button "Erase latched messages" does not repair anything, it just erases latched EICAS status messages, red EGT boxes, and the A/P disconnect alert. You can see some info when you hover the mouse over the button.

In addition to what Kev wrote, there's also a hint on this CANC/RCL effect in the PSX manual on page 527.

Thanks for the info, both of you.

Hardy - I did in fact really 'repair' from the malfunction page first, just forgot to mention it.  Then cleared the red box with the Service 'erase latched messages'.  I had also forgotten about the CANC-RCL engineering feature for erasing the box.  Thanks for the RTFM directive - I guess maybe you do have the whole manual in your head :).

Kev - do you know whether the CMC-PSX add-on should include these data?  The version I have just prints out the form format with nothing noted in this case.  The program notes say that not all the multiple pages are functional, just place holders.

Re: CMC-PSX

Actually, after poking around in the CMC-PSX menu, I did find the Eng 4 vibration noted under both EXISTING FAULTS and PRESENT LEG MSG pages.  I'm impressed.

Hi Torrence,

Unfortunately, the Maintenance Pages and Exceedances are not muddled in CMC-PSX,

Hi,

The Maintenance pages, unfortunately, are not modelled but you can print a "demo" of them (select Report / Printer in the respective maintenance CDU page).
In the Exceedance page you can get TRUE for engine hot start and N1RED (over speed). You can get RED N1 with GE engines, EEC switch at ALTN and full thrust.
Check pages 46-48 in the CMC-PSX user guide.

Yep, finger trouble.

Thanks Avi, I haven't got that far yet.
