When do we disarm the A/T?

QuoteI have never heard of the autothrottle being physically armed on entering the runway. This is not Boeing SOP.
Maybe it's a U.S. thing. I've never heard of not arming and disarming the A/T switch when entering the runway and just after exiting the landing runway.

Is this a to-do-list or a check-list?

emerydc8

This is the checklist. It is done using a flow and then backed up with the checklist. The after landing items are not read out loud.

Will

So that means the flow could be accomplished much earlier, and just double-checked as the aircraft enters the runway?

No. To say that it could have been done at the gate is a bit of a stretch.  I can't copy and paste our checklist, but Polar's is virtually the same.

In Lufthansa, for example, there is no A/T disarm task after landing, not even after parking. However, there is an A/T disarm task during cockpit preparation and an A/T arm task shortly before the takeoff checklist is performed. Both tasks are done by the F/O.

emerydc8

According to my FCOM, on an autoland and reverse, even though the A/T goes off, it looks like it is re-armed again (10 seconds after coming out of reverse) until the flaps are up. So maybe the A/T system is disabled on the ground with flaps up.

QuoteDuring rollout, autothrottle IDLE mode remains active until the autothrottle disconnects with the thrust levers in reverse.

NOTE: Ten seconds after reverse thrust levers are down, autothrottle is armed until flaps are UP. Pushing a TO/GA switch while the autothrottle is armed activates the autothrottle in THR REF mode.

Avi

I have 2 AOMs.
In one of them the captain should check the A/T switch is ARM during his preflight checks and it never switched OFF after landing and in the other AOM it is done (arming) before takeoff and switched to OFF during taxi-in.

This is 100% company policy.
