Floor Plan anyone - or a link for a possible cockpit visit?

Hi foks,

Having almost finished putting together my (FDS) shell, I will be constructing a double frame floor underneath it to house the flight controls et al...

In order to layout this frame so that there are no connecting bars where there shall be empty space, I need to position the seats, columns, pedals, TQ, plus all the seats and furniture from the rear cockpit at their proper places.

Now, does a kind soul have - per chance - kinda floor plan where I can gather the measurements and distances between the equitpment in the cockpit?

The best thing to do would - of course - be to go visit a cockpit and take these measurements myself, but it seems quite difficult to get onto one these days.

Here in Basel, nobody seems to be arriving in style anymore  ??? . With the exception of certain sheiks coming in a dash eight. I gather that these cockpits are not necessarily identical to the -400 -> if they even would ever let me come near it in the first place, huh?

So, if someone has connections to a pal of a friend of a collegue able to grant me a visit to a cockpit of the queen, I shall be a very happy man   :) . Any place in Europe will do!

Hi Cavari (?) hi Hardy,

Ahhh, thanks for this - a few questions will be answered by this! Much appreciated!

Now, if I only could lay hands on a real 744 to get the other still missing measurements (namely the aft cockpit and a few others).

Thanks again!

If you need any specific measurements give me a shout, I can go out and measure the sim which was built from the real trim and measurements on a real 744 so could give you a good start.

Cheers

Hi Gary,

This is very kind of you  !

I will try to define the most important (to me) dimensions and chat back.

Hi Gary could you send a 'shout' to cus[at]747-simulator[.ch] please so that I can ask you a question  ;) ?

Thank you!

Received your email Charles ..sure not a problem may I suggest make a folder of some sort and place all these measurements there then whole community can benefit taking accurate measurements is a pain and time consuming hence a community folder

hi Mad,

good idea with the public folder. I have a genuine 747-400 TQ and can throw in measurements here as well.

Okay Charles
..email me to death... will get you all dims you require :-) I sent you alternative email and my Skype ..I suggest bring a'single malt to TX and a bubble protractor and I will hold tape.. my deck is all real and sits upon a 6 ft frame so you can access everything underneath and see how the mechanical systems interoperate..etc etc

SwissCharles

Hey folks

This is just to say thank you to Bernard who kindly let me swarm all over his sim to take measurements open panels, look under the hood and ask silly questions ;-)
It was a hell of a job, believe me - there are so many measurements to take - but the sim was ideal for such a task!

I can say the trip almost around half the globe to do this was worth every penny! Not only is his sim a real cutout of the queen, but he's integrating much, much more of the real avionics and power systems than I have seen anywhere - nothing beats real stuff eh?  :)

Bernard was more than ready to let me partake in his experience and knowledge which in itself alone was worth to take the trip to Austin TX...

If he  would bear hosting another guy like me ( :o )  a trip to his place is worth a thousand words ;D

So thank you Bernard for this opportunity you so kindly provided me – it was fun and a we had a helluva good time  (and that was even without any single malt  :P! )

Hi Guys,
If anyone has the Dims on the TQ I would really appreciate them, especially the levers (reversers as well)
A folder of dimensions would be brilliant as this is for the 747 and hardly any exist elsewhere except on mycockpit and then they are more about the frames not necessarily each of the panels and such.

Cheers,

@ Alex: Sorry, have only just now seen your reply to this post (had a throat splitting flu  :-[ )
But like me Hans has got the real TQ and has probably helped you out already...

@ Hardy: Since I do have an awful lot of dimensions should someone need one, I would be happy to share those with this nice group of people - but not necessarily with the whole world  ;) .

But since it took me quite a few $$ and time to get there I would like to make them availlable only through a password or some such... Since people have asked for a specific section to do this, I would be ready to publish these bit by bit as people request specific measurements... What do you think about?... is there even a need for something like this?...
