WorldFlight 2015

WorldFlight will commence on the 31st October and run on a 24-hour basis until the 7th November.
During this time teams from many countries around the globe will be operating their respective sims for the whole world - 45 sectors as the route circles the globe, in aid of charitable causes.

See www.worldflight.com/au for lots of information on Worldflight from the Australian founders.

In the UK we will be using Gary Oliver's 747 sim which many of you have already viewed on Twitch TV, and we will be broadcasting a live feed for the whole week, with our Simfestuk crew operating the sectors.

The WF Route Guidance Manual (by Britjet) is available on the www.simfest.co.uk website now.

It has been a lot of fun and the downloadable zip file has situs for the start of every sector, all prepared and ready to go, so you can fly them any time or on the day, in parallel with the Twitch video feed or connected with VATSIM.

As always at Worldflight and Simfestuk, if you like what you see, donations to our chosen charities will be very much appreciated.

EDIT: You can now connect up to our read-only server on 52.30.35.172 port 10747 and monitor everything that happens in Gary's sim during WorldFlight. There seems to be an issue with Visual PSX loading the visual display into your scenery generator (we are using P3D). It keeps loading and re-loading constantly. If anyone knows a fix for this we would be glad to hear, and if yours is working OK please let us know - but in the meantime - you have full PSX access!

Cheers,

Peter-

Much Obliged!  Will D/L and try to follow along.... should be interesting, and workable, as most of the legs are fairly short (at least as I remember prior WF events).  This should blend nicely with my typical availability.  As much as I enjoy the 12+ hour flights, most of my simming needs to be 2-3 hours at a time...

Congrats to you and the entire team- WorldFlight is a great cause, and a superb event for the FS enthusiast.

I'm unable to read the inluded .doc file (I just have wordpad and notepad as editors on this windows 10 box).

Any chance of a .txt format version?

Hessel Oosten

JJ (sorry, don't know your name),

Consider also the freeware "OpenOffice":

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/

It will save you a lot of "DOC-opening-problems" in the future.

Thanks for that info, I'll give it a try!

(and "JJ"  is what most folks call me ( unless they are upset with me!)).

Peter thank you! The route guidance manual is excellent. Some of these sectors are challenging to say the least. And I don't think I'll be stopping in Shanghai to eat. I prefer Italian. I'm looking forward to following the progress of the flight. Just wondering how the hell do a/c operate safely in "chaos corner?"

My thanks again to Hessel Oosten for his pointing me to the .doc reader!  A nice addition to my machine, and it works  fine.

Hi,

Thanks for the support so far!

In previous events we've hosted a network that that you can connect directly to with your copy of PSX so you can see the displays, switches, etc as if we were next to you flying.

Would this be something people would be interested in again?

Yes!

Yes, of course. :)

Roger that.

Britjet; looks like we might need to do some testing beforehand to see if we can figure out the issues you, and others, had whilst connected to the simfest sim in the last event.

Britjet

By all means, Mark...

Hi all,

in addition to Peter's tips on Russian QFE landings:

If you don't fly a BA aircraft, or if you do and you are the boss engineer of BA for a minute, and QFE operations are approved by yourself, you can install the QFE/QNH feature in your FMC software by clicking the checkbox "QNH and QFE landing modes" on Instructor > Model > Programming, under "Miscellaneous".

When this feature is installed, it can be controlled on the FMC APPROACH REF page at 3L.

When QFE mode is selected, the amber touchdown zone on the PFD's altitude tape will be set to 0 ft instead to landing altitude.

Atlas Air, for example, have this feature.

WorldFlight departs Sydney at 2300Z on the 31st - any time now!

You can watch the Twitch feed of Garys' sim (see www.simfest.co.uk) live at www.twitch.tv
As well as that we have a read-only server running which will enable you to link in as a client in PSX.
The IP is 52.30.35.172 Port 10747

There does seem to be an issue with Visual PSX loading the visual display into your external scenery generator (we are using P3D). It keeps loading and re-loading constantly. If anyone knows a fix for this we would be glad to hear, or indeed if your rig works OK - but in the meantime - you have full PSX access!

Enjoy!

Peter,
I am using P3D V2.5 on a PC with 3 screens purely for scenery with ORBX installed and have not found any issues.
I have not gone up to V3 as I cannot afford to at present (still looking for work!!)
I have noticed that P3D has scenery cache clearing turned on so every time you load it needs to rebuild the cache, maybe that has something to do with it.
My Visual PSX is build 5963 :)

Interesting about VisualPSX; I tried running two simultaneous instances on two computers here, and couldn't get it to work at all. It seems there is a conflict especially when setting a departure runway. It is like there is a race condition on updates, and they constantly fight state with PSX. :\

Joining the WorldFlight session in read-only mode will allow me to follow your flight, without causing any distress by eventual unwanted control inputs right ?
