Question about reverser and slats

Hi, in this nice video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGmV5q3An8s

a 747 is landing at St. Maarten. I see two sets of slats retract as soon as the reversers are deployed, and then they deploy again when the reversers are off. Is it to prevent damage or what?

Tnx

Oh, and in this other video there is a wing view of a 747 takeoff from the same airport, flying the same procedure we fly in one of the standard situ files in PSX.

Yes. Since the reversers are quite capable of throwing up a lot of dirt from the runway or the areas next to it, the slats are partially retracted during reverser deployment.

Aside from videos, you can observe this also in PSX when the EICAS flap indication is expanded :-)
