CPFlight MCP ALT SEL Problem

I really do like my new CPFlight MCP, but I noticed an issue and I don't know if it's a CPFlight driver or maybe something that can be solved within a PSX setting, so I'll throw this out here on the forum for any thoughts on this.

When I open .situ files, the CPFlight MCP ALT SEL often (but not always) indicates 46,500' when the PSX ALT SEL shows the correct altitude (e.g., 5,000'). If I try to run the altitude down using the PSX screen, I can usually get the CPFlight ALT SEL down to around 6500' and my PSX ALT SEL will indicate 1000' at this point. Then, when I turn the CPFlight ALT SEL further down from 6500', the PSX ALT SEL will match and follow the PSX ALT SEL.

It's not a huge issue, but it would be nice not to have to run the ALT SEL knob down from 46,500 every time I reposition to a new situation. I noticed this occurs whether I use the canned situ files as well as situ files that I have created myself.

If the PSX server shows the correct altitude, and the PSX clients are correct too, the PSX network sends the correct data. So I see no problem on the PSX side.

Thanks, Hardy. It looks like a CPFlight problem. I was hoping that someone else here using the CPFlight MCP might have experienced this too.

Hi Jon,
I have also had this 46,500' problem with the CPfilght. but not all the time. I can check what firmware I am using if that helps. I do not see it most of the time and hence does not bother me too much. Usually my CP filght MCP behaves itsself most of the time.

Thanks, Greg. It seems to happen more often than not in my case. My firmware is 104. I brought it to Paolo's attention at CPFlight a few days ago and he said he would look into it.

I also have this problem and I observed the following. When connecting the CP-MCP to the PSX and the PSX preselected altitude is 10.000 ft and higher everything is OK.

When the PSX preselected altitude is 9.900 ft or lower the CP-MCP altitudes doesn't match.
9900 on the PSX will be 95500 on the CP-MCP
9800 ---- 94500
9700 ---- 93500
9600 ---- 92500
--------------------
8000 ---- 76500
--------------------
5000 ---- 46500
--------------------
and so on till
1000 ---- 6500
that means for every 100 PSX ft 1000 CP-MCP ft

then from
900 ---- 51200
800 ---- 41200
700 ---- 31200
600 ---- 21200
500 ---- 11200
400 ----   1200
that means for every 100 PSX ft 10000 CP-MCP ft

then from
300 ---- 44800
200 ---- 34800
100 ---- 24800
00000 ---- 14800
that means for every 100 PSX ft 10000 CP-MCP ft

I have two possibilities to match the altitudes:

1. turning down the higher CP_MCP altitude until the altitudes match,
2. turning up the PSX altitude above 10000 where the altitudes then match.

Like I said it's on my system and because I'm not a computer freak I don't know is it a PSX or a CP-MCP (driver) problem. May be the above information helps to solve the problem.

Hi there,

that's certainly not a PSX problem. Otherwise, the PSX clients would show the same wrong values the CP-MCP shows.

The MCP values are set in the PSX server only, not in the PSX clients. So if the PSX clients agree with the PSX server, the network data are correct.

Just another question. You wrote about a firmware 104 for the CP-MCP. The only one I can find on the CP-download page is version 103. Is there a hidden path to get the firmware 104?

Hi Walter. I just took delivery of my MCP a few weeks ago, so maybe the firmware is so new that it's not even posted on their website yet.

Paolo fixed it straight away. He not only fixed the MCP issue, he also fixed the problem with the vert speed window opening with a 4900 fpm climb when in level flight. You have to extract the file and overwrite the existing file. Cheers. Jon.
