Hi all,

June 15: v3.0.1 of RealTraffic has been released. See the release history below for details on what's new. Here's the link to the information/download page: http://www.inside.net/ss/realtraffic-for-psx/

Comments and suggestions welcome as usual, happy chase plane flying in your 744's!

Release History:
-----------------
15 June 2015: v3.0.1
- Make the individual sections collapsible.
- Always persist settings on exit.

13 June 2015: v3.0.0
- Completely redesigned PSX traffic injection to correctly reset when slots change.

Still todo:
-----------
- Redesign the PSX traffic injection algorithm: Only include TFC +/- 7000ft in altitude and never remove/reslot TFC during an RA.
- use PSX slots 1,3,5 (0 based) for Airbus acft (double strobe)

+ 2 more

It's not working correctly for me on P3D injection, Balt. (This post may be more appropriate for Garry, maybe).

I have traffic showing correct and sensible altitude trends on climb and descent in the REALTRAFFIC screen, but in Traffic PSX and P3D the same traffic altitudes make huge leaps - sometimes a few thousand feet at a time.

The airborne visual traffic I see usually has bank and/or pitch angles of 90 degrees. It is like watching a flying display...also some of the targets drop out of "selection" even though they may be closest and in direct view.

If the aircraft are flying level they look OK.

This doesn't happen with PSX-generated traffic. They all track very smoothly...

Hi Peter,

thanks for the feedback. Presumably you're using Garry's VisualPSX? I don't know how he injects the traffic there but I suspect he obtains it from the PSX slots.

It unfortunately is a non-trivial problem of matching two lists against each other while retaining the same order but only in the second (injection) list. All the while, it's about not missing any traffic that has moved closer. I have resolved this for now by making sure if the slot changes into which one specific traffic is being written to, it first is zeroed, i.e. PSX (and any addons using that data) should remove that traffic rather than interpolating to the next position from it.

As long as you are moving *with* traffic, this works rather well.

If however you are using an opposite runway for instance to the one in use in real life, then of course mayhem will ensue, in more than one way. :-)

I'm thinking about other ways to address this, such as manually selecting which traffic you want injected, and then just sticking to showing only those. Would that be a desirable option?

Hi Balt,

Thanks. I think that it might be worthwhile excluding traffic at high level if you are lower down, to allow more relevant traffic to be seen, and also, if the traffic is behind you I would exclude that.

I think something like an arc of left or right 90 degrees and +/_ 7000 feet should have priority, and should be retained until it moves out of that arc.

To enable this, perhaps some sort of algorithm that says "the closer to dead-ahead, the closer to you, the closer in altitude" should be maintained.

I would think that TCAS proximate or RA/Ta traffic should have absolute priority..so that they don't disappear halfway through an RA..

I'm not sure that manual selection would be realistic, but I think that the "bottom line" should be that once you have a TCAS target it should remain..tricky, I know...

Hi Peter,

all great suggestions, thank you.

I'm in the process of redesigning the algorithms completely and will take some variant of your suggestions into account. It'll be a few days before I get to working on this again, the days are too short!

Hi Balt

Purchased a licence and enjoying the add-on.

Could I make a suggestion for a future development please?

In the app window, would it be possible to open and close the individual sections, i.e. Settings, Traffic List and Traffic Display?  For example, I would like to just have the Traffic Display open when flying on some occasions.

Thanks
Malcolm

Balt

Hi Malcolm,

thank you for your suggestion. I'll take that into consideration of course for the (or a) next release. Perhaps I'll do this à la Hardy and update the first post in this thread with what's left to do for the next releases.

Cheers

Balt

Malcolm,

I had a few spare moments this morning (which turned into a couple of hours in the end) but I think I was able to accommodate your request much more rapidly than I thought I would...

Also, when you quit and restart, it'll always save the state of the sections as well as the position of the window, so there's no need to go press "save" when you have the window where you want it...

And I have to agree with you, the visual effect is quite good of just having the radar display open!

Great, thanks for the rapid response!

I will give it a try when I get in from work this evening!  :)

Hi Balt,

Wow, looks like there's been impressive improvments since I last used it! So, quite a good reason to resume my PSx flying, and traffic patterns at rush hour at LFPG!

Hi Balt,

I can't run it because it doesn't find my JRE. I guess it needs Java 1.8. I use 1.7.

Hi Hardy,

I'm still using the 1.7 JRE. The Java classes,  dependencies and the build environment haven't changed since the last version you ran (all of my addons use the same build/Java environment).

Are you getting an error or is it just not starting?

Assuming you're running the OSX version off the DMG, can you try to run it manually like so:

java -jar RealTraffic\\ for\\ PSX.app/Contents/Java/RealTraffic.jar

Does that tell us anything useful?

A small window with your traffic icon pops up and says "Unable to load Java Runtime Environment".

This works:

java -jar RealTraffic\\ for\\ PSX.app/Contents/Java/RealTraffic.jar

P.S.: Why is it not allowed to use your software in Serbia?

Balt

I found the problem. I have to build an updated app package. The appbundler I was using needs a browser installed JRE. JDK is not supported.

Interesting point about Serbia. I'll have to ask my lawyers, I don't deal with these things myself... I suspect they're still on some ITAR nono list from way back when.

You may also want to check Cuba :-) It's no longer an enemy of the USA :-)

Balt

Hi Hardy,

I've uploaded updated images for OSX. Can you have a try now please? If the regular DMG doesn't work, there's now also a standalone version that has the Java runtime integrated, just download that DMG if the small one doesn't work.

Which countries we can sell to is largely determined by Oracle (owner of Java) and a few others whose technology our software is based on. I'd suspect you should be bound by the same rules for PSX? Or is that not your problem because you're not selling it yourself?

Now it works! :-)

Hi Balt,

purchased a license 28h ago via PayPal, but did not receive any license yet.
For resolution, any way to contact you other then via this forum?

Thanks,
Joerg

Hi Joerg,

sorry about that and thanks for your support!

EDIT: Found the problem: Paypal changed an internal payment notification variable - without letting us merchants know it seems. It's fixed now. I have added contact information to the order pages though for all products should this occur again.

Cheers

Looks good! I'm hoping to try it out this weekend.
