Hi Garry,

That can't be right.

I've just had a look inside the folder you mention and found an original scenery.cfg file dated 12.09.2006 containing just the default scenery paths! This file cannot be the active file because in this case I wouldn't be seeing any addon scenery whatsoever that is installed outside of 'FSX\\Addon Scenery'... I think this is the reference file you mention and the one in ProgramData is the working copy. The roaming profile path does contain various other working  files such as fsx.cfg, xml.cfg, dll.cfg, etc. but not the working scenery.cfg

For years, I've been modifying the scenery.cfg file in C:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\FSX both manually and using a scenery tool and these changes have always been reflected in FSX after a restart.

In fact, I didn't even realise that there was a scenery.cfg file in the roaming profile path and had always assumed that the file in FSX root was the 'backup'... (if this 'FSX-root' file is deleted then FSX goes haywire and suggests a re-install!)

Hi Simon,

Thanks for alerting me to this situation.

My copies of FSX, P3Dv1 and FSX-SE are all on my old XP computers and store the active scenery.cfg file where I indicated. In my code I use the appdata environment variable to find its location for each sim.

My copy of P3Dv2 is on a Win 8.1 computer and stores its active scenery.cfg file under C:\\ProgramData. I use the programdata environment variable to find its location.

I thought the latter location was unique to P3Dv2 but it now appears from your post that the location for all the sims depends on the Windows version. I shall include this condition in the next update.

Cheers,
Garry

Hi all,

Build 5635 is now available. RunwaysPSX should now work correctly with Win7 and Win8. Thanks to Simon for revealing the error.

Garry,

I am using 7.1 with P3D 2.5 and am still getting "stutters".
They manifest themselves as "mini-freezes" of maybe 1/2  second or so with significant bank and pitch changes - then the picture "jerks" to the new position.
Also the forward movement is smooth for most of the time, but will similarly just stop for a fraction of a second.

I have used identical scenery, aircraft and P3D loading using a WIDEVIEW client and server from another networked PC with P3D  - and the result is smooth, so I don't understand why VisualPSX is having a different result. (The P3D frame rates are always high - well in excess of 100)

I know that XVIEW has the interpolation element incorporated - is this a feature of VisualPSX, and can it be turned off?

Sorry, still the same problem: it starts, but when I push "start processing" it just vanishes.

Hi Peter,

If you are running WidevieW with VisualPSX they may be interfering with each other. Both are sending attitude and position data, although they use different ports. VisualPSX doesn't use extrapolation so that's not a possible cause.

Hi Andrea,

Could you tell me how much, if any, of this sequence happens when you press the "start processing" button?

1 The button text changes to "stop processing".

2 A message appears in the lower frame stating "extracting P3Dv2 addon airport and runway data...".

3 If you have any addon airports the file names and counters start changing in the upper frame, otherwise there is a slight delay while the scenery library catalogue is searched.

4 The message in the lower frame is replaced by "extracting P3Dv2 standard airport and runway data...".

Thanks,
Garry

Thank'you Garry, all I see is some string flash near "file" and something under "status", but it's really too fast to be read. Then it's over. The whole thing lasts maybe one tenth of a second. The first time I run it it lasts a bit longer, maybe half a second, then, when files are cached, it's virtually instantaneous.

Bye

Excellent, Andrea! That is useful info telling me where to look and I have now been able to introduce an error that causes an instant crash. At this stage it could be due to a corrupt airport file but treat that as a differential diagnosis. I have to put more thought into likely causes.

Cheers,
Garry

Hi Garry

Thanks for the reply. No, I'm not using WIDEVIEW server at the same time as VisualPSX, although the client is "listening" on P3D. I'll try switching that off to see if it makes a difference, although a couple of other friends have the same issue and aren't using WIDEVIEW at all..

Hi Peter,

another idea: Are you sure the occassional microfreeze doesn't occur in PSX itself? If it does, does it occur during dusk and dawn about once per minute? If so, you should assure the "Sunlight intensity on flight deck" option is not set to "Dynamic" on Instructor > Preferences > Basics.

Also, are you sure the microfreeze is caused by bank and pitch changes? For sure it is apparent during bank and pitch motion, but that doesn't necessarily mean the motion being the cause of it. (If it's in PSX itself, it's caused by dynamic flight deck brightness updates during gradual dusk and dawn transitions.)

PSX seems to be smooth, but I'll have a look at that Hardy, thanks..

I noticed that first setting FPS to Unlimited in FSX:SE, and latter to 72 FPS, brings any stutters down to a minimum, even rare, event...

Ok, thanks, - I generally use unlimited - P3D slider won't allow 72

I've followed HH's advice and not only disbled the dynamic cockpit lighting effects, but also the windshield views, since I am not really using it when the visuals are FSX:SE...

Hardy, does disabling windshield views grant a few more fps in PSX, on slower CPUs ?

Depends. Just check the FPS indicator.

Hi Andrea,

Please try RunwaysPSX Beta03. It generates a log file of its progress and any errors it encounters. Errors are indicated by an asterisk at the start of the line.

If I am correct it will run to completion. Could you please post the contents of the log file here if there are only a few lines.

Thanks,
Garry

Thank'you Garry, just tried, it lasted about 1 sec and produced this log:

RunwaysPSX for P3D v2, Version 7.1 Beta03
6/8/2015 1
Found P3D_V2
User selected P3D_V2
Extracting addon airports

then it quit without further notice

Thanks again

Good Morning Garry,

You must be agreeable surprised that you have not had correspondence with me re Visual PSX suite. You must admit I gave you a few grey hairs with Visual PS last time!

Your program has performed for me perfectly and for this I thank you.

However!!!

Can you explain in your instructions for slewing to gate positions
"Ensure that the VisualPSX status page  shows that FSX is locked"

Only on one occasion did I get the slew function to work!

Secondly, the on line programs do not show up in Traffic PSX.
This is not a problem as flying on line works ok.

Regards
