Greetings,

it may still be -30°C and below in Finland, but nevertheless, the days are getting longer, and spring seems on its way (to the Northern hemisphere):
First observation ever of the mating  between 744s!

Cheers,
Martin

Our poor northern friends;

We just spent yesterday at the beach, in +30C sunny weather, drinking icy cold beers and eating from the BBQ  :D  :D

Anything is possible once you survive the constant bombardment of (Australian) community health-based TV advertisements relating to skin cancer, drink-driving, alcohol-related violence, keeping-between-the-beach markers, and cholesterol-induced heart attacks : P

P.S. Hope you put sunscreen on your steak and sausages???

jagabom

I guess that's where 737's come from.  ;)

and 380ies make 320ies? ;-)

the state of brandenburg had yesterday a -20°C.
my girlfriend and i built a snowman there during xmas.
well, its still there... under a mountain of even more snow...
more than 4 weeks of snow is a record, talking about global warming...

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

Well of course "global warming" does not mean "warmer weather" -- it means "more extreme weather". At least I have been told.

John Golin

It never snows in Sydney :(

No, it's Frumpy without sun glasses.

Hi guys!

Wow, Cocaïne looks very abundant and probably cheap in Würzburg! I don't know exactly where Hardy's living in Germany... but that may explain his exceptional abilities, seem in PSx screenshots!

I'm not interested in Cocaïne or any drugs at all, so I don't really know, but I read that it makes one very aggressive. That would be right the opposite of my work and attitude :-) I would probably get a heart attack.

u got topics here...
i know a little about psychotropic substances.
cocaine is a very addicting drug, and besides making
you feel better there is no good use. a little like
alcohol, but more euphoria and heavy craving afterwards.
stay off that road, if you want to grow old.

that middle ball of the snowman... lets say the
packed snow weights only about 1/3 of water.
at this size (about .85m in diameter) its about
100 kilos. heavy stuff!
every winter its fun to make little snowballs and
throw it in the face of each other. its fun as long
as you dont realize how freaking cold your hands get  :P

An aside - I visited Wurzburg for about a week some years ago, to attend a medical physics scientific conference being held there.  I enjoyed the town, the people, and the idyllic atmosphere of this small town so much.   I will always remember an "incident" that occurred while walking around the town one evening.  When I came to a traffic light, I noticed that there was no automobile traffic in sight.  Thus, using my American values and lifestyle, I simply paused briefly to verify my initial observation about it being safe to cross the road and violated the "don't walk" sign and then safely and easily walked across the road.  Less than half-way across the road, I heard a very audible gasp as the natives simultaneously sucked in their breath as if something dreadful was happening.  I stopped, turned around and looked back at them and saw that they were visibly horrified.  I then looked up and down the road, thinking a car was approaching without me hearing or seeing it, but there was none.  So, I just kept on walking and finished my evening walk around the village, but felt as if I were now a wanted criminal, expecting to see a Wanted poster with my photo on every wall!

It was so much like going back in time, seeing families taking their elderly relatives out for a Sunday afternoon excursion to the restored Würzburg Residenz (a beautiful palace), and enjoying the summer afternoon sunshine on the grounds.  It remains my vision of a peaceful German village life, untouched by the many problems of big cities...a village where crime is so low that even crossing an empty street against a traffic light shocks to the townspeople.
Best wishes,

i think your observation is very characteristic for
the people around here, good job! *g*
people here easily give you some tough words for
not doing what they wanted you to do. many
of them are narrow minded. a bad place for people
with own ideas.
i used to live close to berlin most of my life, people
there are just easier... and of course... no one
cares if you cross the road if there is no car is in sight.

thinking about the traffic experience - the other
side is that drivers expect you to obey the law
and are somewhat reckless when it comes to
pedestrians crossing the road without a traffic
light.

btw.. did you go up to the fortress? its a beautiful place.
also, if you will be around here again, check out
rothenburg. 57% of the people there are american
tourists, but this is a very classic and neat old
german town.

okay, coming from mating 747s to cold beer, global
warming, snow, cocaine and würzburg, whats next guys?

p.s. yes, week-end!

The medical physics conference I attended was held at the fortress, also a remarkable historic place.

If my aging memory serves me correctly for a change, I think I recall that it is the only fortress that was not successfully attacked.  Sitting on top of a steep hill, I can see how it would be hard to invade the fortress, even with cannons and such.
Best wishes,

My memories of Würzburg include the Festung and it's beautiful Sations of the Cross, life size, carved into rock at bends in the foot path up the hill... And a really tasty restaurant called Karthäuser, I believe, where I had the best pepper steak I've ever had.  That would have been back in 1989... any chance it's still around?

the fortress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortress_Marienberg)
was taken twice, i think.

still the bauern (farmers) didnt succeed. 15000 attacked, and the
fortress was held by 280 people with weapons. i always wonder
how it was like for the bauern, so many traps and obstacles
to take...
besides that, würzburg is a nice place for roadbiking, you
just have to go down the river or over the vineyards. cant
wait for the snow to melt...

@will
i had to check google too, i dont go out for eating.
but yes, its still there. check out the white wine
too, if you havent already (silvaner was goethes
favorite wine) :-)
