Fresh from the workbench ...

Here's a snapshot shortly after activation of the WXR display, the sweep is not yet fully drawn:

The radar model detects the roughness of the terrain. The shallower the surface, the weaker the radar return. This can be compensated with the gain control. Ice crystals are hard to detect also. Coincidentally, icy surfaces are mostly flat as well, i.e. this helps the model to simulate temperature effects on the radar.

Clouds are not included yet. These pictures show ground clutter only with the radar in map mode and the antenna tilt down. With the gain control the ground clutter
may be eliminated. It will require some practise to find in each situation the best compromise between cloud detection and ground elimination – when in manual mode. There's also an automatic mode supressing ground clutter automatically after a few sweeps.

This is ten miles from Rio with max gain. Unfortunately, the radar is not fine enough to show the people at the Copacabana.

Did people notice the sneaky move of the ND to lower EICAS?

Hi folks!

And there are also a lot of dimmed lights (in the HYD section of the overhead panel and the CAUTION) plus a broken light in the SPD button on the MCP. And who switched the right stab trim cutout switch to "ALTN"?
Looks like both maintenance and crew had abused beer (or other stuff...) even leaving thrust lever quite unequalized! Maybe they were also hypnotized watching the nice sunrise over Antarctic...
And... BRAKE SOURCE is lit... be careful upon landing!

I agree, stunning work Hardy!

The amount of detail going into this product is just amazing...

Amazing!

Will I be able to create a radar map of the earth, sort of like the one that NASA created of the planet Venus?  (grins)
Best wishes,

Just remembering a note in a former post about competition.
What competition?

I need to plan my holidays for the weeks after PSX release.

Question from a wx radar novice - what phenomenon causes the radiating lines to manifest on the display?
